First listen for me, agree fun catchy song. I was thinking the guitar riff sounded oddly familiar, thanks for pointing out American Girl. I was racking my brain trying to remember where I heard it before. In regards to publications like Rolling Stone Magazine ranking this song in the top whatever for whichever decade, I'd take that with a grain of salt. Jimmy Page once said if you bought all the albums recommended by RSM, you'd have the worst record collection the world. Jann Wenner co founder of the magazine and sits on the board of the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame is a big influence on who gets inducted into the Hall. These guys in power dictate what good music is and what we should listen to. They decide who gets in the hall and who doesn't. There are artist imo have no business being in the Rock Hall, while you have a ton of great bands that are still waiting to get in. Just based on my interest in music, these magazines and critics are full of you know what.

Hi Sue Another crazy fact about Paul Weller and The Jam. You mentioned the 18 singles in the top 40 but when he broke up the band, he was still only 25. I got to see them a couple of times. The last time in 82 I was in a group of about 20 kids brought back stage for about half an hour. A couple of months later, they were no more. I don't listen to them very often anymore but when I do, it's usually the first album. I've always loved the raw energy of that first record. I've Changed My Address is one of my favourites. There's a great documentaty about this song, made by SVT, discussing the samples and the difficulties of synths back then. The colour coding on the sleeve also reveals the information of the recording.
