The disco sound is paying homage to the 1986 Journey to the West drama that was produced in China. That particular sound has enamored millions of East and South East Asians from young. Which might be the reason why they put it in to somehow pull the heartstrings of those growing up watching it.
the original disco doo doo sound was iused as it represents the sound of Wukong flipping in the air which is one of the monkey king 's inimitable cool characteristics. The other characteristics identified with the monkey king includes his constant scratching of his face n body and his magic rod fighting weapon which he can transform into needle size to be tugged into the back of his neck.

@@RightManWrongPlace Yup, this whole version is in the final cutscene! I know some of the melody is in the final boss theme as well since it’s kind of the ”main theme”, so it might be in other places in the game too :)

5:50 Sampling from the original 1986 version. Reportedly, the very first synthesizer(YAHMAHA DX7) was used in China back in 1983-84.

5:50 ... The "disco" effect is basically the sound of digital/synth tomtom drums of the day in the 1980's, as the music comes from the 1986 TV show, as a lot of people have already commented, & this game music themes are really an homage to that TV show. These synth toms were a common sound of those days in pop music when portable synths started to come of age by the mid/late 1970's, as part of the evolution away from the huge lumbering heavy more-expensive modular synths of the 1960's & early 1970's. Many synth bands of those days, such as the iconic Flock of Seagulls (still active today), who were known to sometimes used digital drum pads along with real analog percussion, sometimes used synth toms. Rick Astley's iconic song, now popularly-memed (rickroll!), "Never Gonna Give You Up", also has a similar sound at its intro, although it's more like a synth velocity-pitched snare rather than a synth tom. Since this global revolution in synthesizers also came during the days of late 1970's Discotheque & sometimes also used in that music, that is probably why you equated it to that music genre & era. I am unsure which machine these iconic synth tom sounds came from first, but it could probably be like a LINN electronic drum machine from back in the day, which also became iconic legendary machines, if you know synthesizer history. The synth tom also became a regular preset on portable electronic keyboards (different from a synth keyboard & more commercialized for the general consumer) over the decades, like the ones from Casio or Yamaha, that you could buy at a department store. As for me, I was a high school band geek back in the day (sousaphone/tuba, baritone, Rhodes bass), but was also into synths. My Dad (RIP) regularly listened to marching band music & western Classical. As far as the Wukong game, I only live it through the gaming I watch from other players (on KZbin) as I don't play Souls-like or Elden-like RPG games, as I'm more of an FPS & RTS gamer. As you may already know, this game was hyped up & anticipated for the last 4 years (I watched all the video trailers at every release) since during the pandemic & lots of people doubted it would ever become real & released. Now it is considered game of the year (goty), some say even game of the decade. And some say it is embarrassing other game developers & is now setting the bar even higher. I totally agree, heh. And its soundtrack is part of that level-up experience. You also briefly mentioned the Beatles & the Monkees of which I was also a fan of both, heh. 10/13/24

The theme song of Black Myth Wukong is adapted from the 86 TV series version. Due to the different content of the story, it will be heavier than the original version. 86 version: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mJq3q5uKpNGXsJY

The legendary Celestial Symphony, from the iconic 1986 CCTV Journey to the West TV series. No Journey to the West is complete without it. This piece is really a march. Very Chinese Communist music like (classical Russian/Soviet Music with Chinese characteristics) 😂. Written by Chinese Communist officials. 😂 Game Science had to get it licensed from China Central Television to include the iconic piece in the game. In a way the Celestial Symphony is like Journey to the West’s equivalent of Star Wars’ Imperial March.

Your comment is really laughable. Do you even know what Chinese Communist music sounds like? This piece of music is the opening song of the TV series "Journey to the West". It has nothing to do with Communist. It's more of reflection of Chinese mythology and culture. Don't make up things and spread fake information. The composer is still alive and he's not a communist official. You are a joke.
