I like when you say "Combat is the core element of this art". As a person who was born in China and started learning martial arts since I was 4, I would add that some of the martial art stuns that are in Black Myth Wukong or in action movies aren't originally real martial art moves. Some of the stuns came from Chinese acrobatics or Chinese Opera; back in those days action actors of Chinese Opera did study martial art since they were young, but with primary focus on spectacular fights instead of combat practicality. A modern day representative figure to this would be Jackie Chan. That's why you would see actors do a lot of somersaults, flips, and spin their staff and swords; they are a waste of energy to do in real combat, but if you see those movements from a theatrical perspective, they are art. I think people should appreciate these performance martial art like gymnastics or dances instead of keep questioning "it is useless to do that in fights"; people need to be educated in aesthetics. At least, seeing it is a sport that would grant you a healthy body. Plus a lot of people who trained in performance martial arts are also trained in classic martial art or MMA, and they learn them a lot faster as well. Performance martial art nowadays as a formal sport in China has taken in a lot of moves from Chinese Opera or other acrobatics performances, that's why a lot of martial art athletes can do stuns as well. That pillar stance heavy attack move it is more commonly known as a stun from monkey operas(as a category of Chinese Opera) instead of a martial art move. But of course, actors mimic monkeys, they aren't real monkeys, they are not going to stay on top of a staff for 10 seconds like the game character do.
not true, sommersaulting, spins and waving your weapon like crazy was real martial art during total warfare combat in chinas dynastic warfare period, where hordes of enemy soldiers were coming at you, you dont fight them one by one, you spin or wave your weapon to hit as many people as possible, martial art combat was like that in ancient times.
@yuanshi59892 ай бұрын
@@sophonblock76 ??? As a commander of an army you intentionally set your soldiers in situations where they have to fight multiple enemies alone and they have to come up with movements like somersaulting and spinning weapons?
@yuanshi59892 ай бұрын
@@sophonblock76 I can tell you for sure that in ancient warfare combat cooperation and teamwork are keys to survive and to win combats. The soldiers almost always fight in formations; infantries, archers, and calvaries each have their own usage in different situations. It would be a strategic disaster if the leader of an army to expose their soldiers in scenarios which they are out numbered.
@yuanshi59892 ай бұрын
@@sophonblock76 If you look close to all those weapon spinning movements, they mainly use the strength from wrist and from forearm. If it is like you said they were used to fight against hordes of enemy, do you think using only arm muscles would be enough to penetrate armor?
@minhhoangthai45902 ай бұрын
In Black Myth Wukong, there’s an element named “See through”: If u can predict the enemies’ combo, u can use a specific combo to counter their attacks, which is damn cool, but too hard to use
@Just_your_average_robloxer2 ай бұрын
Its not hard
@georgiykireev96782 ай бұрын
I struggled with it at first, because I didn't realise that you can cancel many light attacks into the counters. Once you get that, they're easier than normal dodging

3:16 The Staff Spin is actually based on Liu Xiao Ling Tong's staff work. If you don't know who is Liu Xiao Ling Tong, he is the actor for Sun Wukong in the 1986 - 2001 Chinese TV series of Journey to the West.

Liu Xiao Ling Tong comes from a family of Chinese opera performers that specializes in “monkey fighting”. “Liu Xiao Ling Tong” is actually his stage name, his real name is Zhang Jinlai.

@daisa15062 ай бұрын
@@thenonexistinghero It's a real bo staff + lacking space to spin the staff. What most Monkey King actors use is a "performer's bo staff" or something like that. It's light and flexible unlike a real bo staff.
@thenonexistinghero2 ай бұрын
@@daisa1506 I don't see how that excuses the pose being very different. Besides that there are videos of others actually pulling it off properly. He could've used a light staff as well. That's why you play around with multiple things if something's not working out.
@raphael_2d8782 ай бұрын
Yeah that's what I'm saying. These flower moves have much more spins that he missed. He's just using his hands. Like 1, 2. 1,2. It's a different rhythm more like 1,2,3 switch side spin it backwards 1,2,3, bring it back and then repeat.

I LOVE that you made a video about Black Myth Wukong. I was wishing for this! Also the staff spin is not the typical staff spin, that's a double spin (its like an under-arm spin) if you look closely, he's actually spinning it more when he moves the staff to the front, that's what I've been having trouble with

I don't mean to call you out because I love u. But you missed the second one. You're doing a different spin. The spin Wukong is doing is kinda the reverse flower spin but using only one hand. In order to perform it you have to let the staff go down bringing it below your armpit and then twist your body so that the staff keeps rotating adding another spin and then letting it spin backwards all the way and using your waist switching side to side. You did a much more basic spin left to right. Which is cool but it's not the one wukong is doing. I know both moves and I'm sure you do too but the game has insane speed so it's ok to get confused. If you slow the footage down you'll see what I mean.
