Its pronounced "cue-pee" like the famous Kewpie dolls that originated in Germany in 1912. So what’s the difference between kewpie mayo and regular mayo? Traditional American mayonnaise that’s sold commercially is made with the whole egg. Kewpie mayo is made with just pasteurized egg yolks, which lends a lusciously silky texture, a deeper yellow hue, and slightly more egg flavor than a whole egg. It also uses rice vinegar (like in sushi rice) instead of apple cider vinegar. It also uses vegetable oil instead of olive oil and apple juice/honey instead of sugar as a sweetner. It also has MSG.

FYI...there are two versions of this. The "Americanized" version does not have MSG. The original Japanese version does. I prefer the one with MSG.

Kewpie Japanese Mayonnaise uses egg yolks which leads to a thicker more pungent mayo. You should review Heinz MayoRacha, MayoMust or MayoCue you'll like a lot more. All three products have rave reviews. Not sure how much longer all of them will be on the shelves for since they debuted in February.

I so hate Kraft... My mom always got it and I would only use it very little, then my Grandpa said... try this real southern Mayo in Blue Plate... and I was like WOW how awesome. If you ask me the three worse Mayo's I have ever tasted are 1. Kewpie, 2. Duke's and 3. Kraft!!!!!!!!!!! nasty nasty nasty all three of them!

I love raksmorgas/rakmacka but I am not inclined to maintain salad shrimp in my freezer. So, I often just make them as a sort of deconstructed egg salad. It was especially so when I was experimenting with holland rusk. So, I primarily just use kewpie mayonnaise for things like that where I am applying it to a surface, like how they drizzle things on sushi rolls, or whatever. I use bulk mayonnaise for mixing into things and I use kewpie mayonnaise when I want a more specific application. I have not tried it on a closed sandwich or a hamburger yet. Wikipedia has an article about Kewpie: Kewpie is a brand of dolls and figurines that were conceived as comic strip characters by cartoonist Rose O'Neill. The illustrated cartoons, appearing as baby cupid characters, began to gain popularity after the publication of O'Neill's comic strips in 1909, and O'Neill began to illustrate and sell paper doll versions of the Kewpies. I've been very happy with Duke's mayo. Best store bought mayo I've had, I haven't tried Kewpie but I've tried just about every other store bought mayo under the sun. Good mayo is subjective though. I've heard people say Kewpie is the very best and others that say Kewpie tastes exactly like Miracle Whip (and I don't like Miracle Whip).

Need onion and dill pickle in that tuna. Of course a lot of people use a smashed up boiled egg mixed in also. Tomato, lettuce and a thin slice of provolone cheese on the sandwich. I know you do not prefer tomatoes. Jersey Mikes and Jimmy John’s make a good tuna sub.

This brand is a staple for me. That said, I can't imagine eating a bite on it's own. I mostly use mayo in tuna sandwiches along with pickles and mustard, etc.

I was hungry before watching this now, I'm starving. Have heard of this mayo watching a Seattle based vlogger. They carry Kewpie mayo in their Costco. The only sandwich I use Miracle Whip on is bologna sandwiches. Good old Oscar Meyer bologna. Oh what I wouldn't do for either a bologna or tuna sandwich right now.😂 The moral of the story--don't watch food reviews while hungry.😁

I used QPee in Japan on Okonomiyuki, which is a Japanese vegetable fried pizza/hash brown, which is excellent. When in Korea I would use QPee on a fried egg sandwich and that was good. I believe you have to get use to the taste of QPee, but it better on certain foods.

From my experience the stuff has a strong egg flavor, mostly egg yolk flavor (think boiled egg yolk), it is slightly sweet/tangy of Miracle Whip (1/5th as strong). Really more than anything it really reminds me of deviled eggs made without mustard.

I have to agree, I prefer Hellmann's also, Speaking of tuna, if you haven't tried Natural Catch tuna, Thats the brand name, And I assume you haven't because you are not using it, Once you try it you will never go back, I buy it online buy the twelve pack, It's not available in stores

Kewpie can be ordered from Walmart if not at your local store. Very egg forward. Didn't like it by itself but was good when used with food. Dukes is king!

Duke's. It's my go to mayo since they started distribution in Michigan. Delicious. Highly recommend. Miracle Whip is too sweet for me.

Duke's is just as nasty as Kewpie! I hate both! They are both so so gross! I do not recommend Duke's at all unless you are willing to add a bit of Apple Cider Vinegar and Sugar to it! Miracle Whip is not Mayo it is a Salad Dressing! It even says so on the bottle! The Best Mayo is Blue Plate!

I was raised eating Miracle Whip. Rarely do I eat mayonnaise. If I do, it's been Duke's. I bought the Kewpie (Q-Pee) mayo and wasn't sure what to think of it. I thought it had a sweet taste. I think I got the one with MSG. I ordered it through an Oriental business. I love putting Miracle Whip and mustard on my sandwiches.

it's an acquired taste bro, the preferred use is as sauce on top of foods i.e. fries, fried chicken, sushi, pizza, etc try it like that and after a while you start loving it. I didn't like it but every takeaway place in nz uses it, I ended up loving it after a number of years disliking it. Cheers

I purchased it from a local Asian grocer after seeing Sam The Cooking Guy rave about it…not my jam as a stand alone Mayo but he uses it as a base for many other sauces/toppings. Not something I would buy again as I don’t feel it has that much of a richer flavor, as Sam boasts, but I will repurpose it in other sauces. 🤷🏼‍♀️ I say, “Q-not-for-me”.
