PSA to Hochal, MTA, and all congestion pricing supporters: Make the subway as safe as the airports, with cops everywhere, nobody allowed to just live and hang out down there, find a way to outright ban certain troublemaking people from even entering the stations at all and THAT is when the overwhelming majority of the public will feel comfortable with choosing mass transit over driving.

@p_e_t_eКүн бұрын

@JoeColon817Күн бұрын
@ Ludicrous comparison. There is always an unfortunate and inherent risk when traveling by car as well as being a pedestrian in a congested environment. In most instances any injury or death resulting from these situations are completely accidental, with no ill intention by an offending individual. The same cannot be said in regard to what SHOULD be a heavily controlled and regulated environment such as the subway. There is NOTHING accidental about a dangerous individual (usually repeat offender) causing harm on mass transit patrons whether it’s by shooting, stabbing, shoving in front of oncoming train, or setting on fire. These examples are ENTIRELY preventable.
@xijaomaoКүн бұрын
@@JoeColon817 Well, sometimes it is driver negligence(often) like speeding, distracted driving, gunning lights, failing to yield, etc, and also an infrastructure problem as well as this causes people to drive negligently.

@@xijaomao Agreed 100% and infrastructure issues should be addressed and people who harm others through negligent actions should be punished. Everyone who says that there won't be improvements to the public transportation system has probably not been living in NYC for the last decade. All buses are now modern, wheelchair-accessible, and electric. The A/C trains have been getting upgrades, which has improved commute times dramatically. They've been adding and enforcing bus lanes, which improved commute times for so many New Yorkers. Signal changes, the Q line extension, the Interboro express in the making. It's not like this new money will be going into a black hole. The budget is literally public, you can read it yourself and see which improvements will be funded by this money, how much it costs, when it will be implemented, etc.. Making more stations wheelchair accessible, replacing ancient signaling systems, replacing old trains that break down all the time, building more lines and stations, and so on. Even basic maintenance costs money! The MTA has been doing all of these things already on a tight budget, so why wouldn't they be able to do more of it with more money? It's such an ignorant complaint.
