@12:46 question: since there was a block touch(counted as 1 touch), the defender technically got second touch, and the ref called it when he set the ball, can anyone explain why that was illegal?

I dont know all the new rules, but before on the beach i know you couldnt open hand dig like that unless it was "hard driven" and since it came off the block it wasnt hard driven anymore, and would have to judged as a set, and that definitely would be double contact as a set.

The player received the ball with open hands and did not set it cleanly, so it was a double contact. You are only allowed to do that when digging a hard driven ball. The defender should have had his hands touching each other, since he was digging a ball that was not hard driven.

Spin isnt necesseraly an indicator of double contact - it says so in every beach volleyball rulebook, including AVP. That ball was rotating in line with where he set it, not rotating perpendicular to its path of travel, that would have been an indicator of a double.
