진정한 썸머퀸의 귀환! 데뷔 10주년을 맞이한 그녀의 새로운 모습을 보여줄 믿고 들을 수 있는 미니앨범 6집 [Following]

@ishankohli2357
@ishankohli2357 6 жыл бұрын
It's about how the industry infantilizes and sexualizes underage girls. As she's marking down her age saying "You make me 24" "I feel like 21" she's losing a sense of her real age because she's constantly being told to show off her youthful innocence and act younger than she is so that people will give her attention and so that she can stay relevant in the industry. What's really sad is when she says "I must've really wanted it" cuz she's referring to the fact that she complies with the industry's desire for young idols because she wants to please her fans. Also, notice how the music dies out when she gets to 17 and 15 which are underage. you can see her visibly uncomfortable. There are so many more allusions to this message all over this song.

FBI 이상하게 웃어 doesnt mean creepy smile... i mean if you dont know korean and cant understand the lyrics as it is in korean, stop making weird assumptions. Nobody in korea assumes this song has deep meaning like that. @@FYFHTaeyun What I think what's happening is she feels younger and younger with a guy. 25, 24, 23, 21, is okay. But the age gets lower 19, 17, 15, is basically a grown man dating someone under 18. From the research I've done about it and many different color coded lyrics, online lyrics, etc. To me it seems like she's pointing out that there are pedophiles in the kpop industry, etc. Because as the ages get youger, you see she gets uncomfortable (also the music is turning off after 17) looks unpleasant. Most lyrics say "I cant sleep because of you" or something along the lines of that. My assumption is that what he guys gonna do next to her, why she cant sleep. In conclusion pointing out just because they seek nice on the outside, doesnt mean they're like that behind closed doors.

1:05 now that we are talking about this, at this time stamp there's a line saying *"I must want to hear it"* and this keeps reminding me of the sexual predators who tell their victims that they are the one who *seduced* and *tempted* them, thus meaning that *they must want it* I might be wrong but this line just doesn't settle well with me now that we are viewing this song in a new light.

For the people who really don’t understand what is going on in this music video there is a double meaning, and it can be interpreted in both ways. The First meaning is stated by HyunA’s team which is, “Her sixth mini album "Following" will show new aspects of her upon the 10th anniversary of her debut. The title song "BABE" of her 6th mini album is a cute and witty song about a couple with an older woman. In the song, she portrays a woman who becomes like a baby as she dates a man who is younger.” This is only the first meaning so that she could get the second meaning into the song. The Second meaning is more than the eye can see. It starts off with the lyrics “Why do you keep staring? Why do you keep smiling? Like That, Like That. Why do you keep acting like that?” This is supposed to represent someone that is over her in the kpop industry with the power to make her act like a “babe.” More lyrics suggest this throughout the song such as, “Like this, huh? Like this, huh? Why do you keep doing that” “I’m burning up every day, you twist me up babe this is indeed me whining, but you think it’s cute” and “I can’t figure out how old I am in front of you did you put a spell on me.” These suggest that she is being forced to portray a “babe” and not act like her actual age. But the thing that is the most significant throughout the song is the ages counting down. HyunA starts at the age of 26 and continuously goes down to the age 15 which is what she feels like, aka. when she debuted. In the music video seen at 0:21 you can see the screen burning while HyunA is wearing all white which could be interpreted as her “innocence” or “purity” is being taken away from her. In the music video at 0:30 we can see her go in the box looking like how she usually is, but when the box is opened she is dressed in unusual clothing and looks very unhappy, you can say she looks like a “babe.” There are also important parts of the video such as the scene with the flowers, the scene where she stops dancing, the scene with the sand, and the scene where she is seen outer space which can be interpreted in many different ways. (Archi S Comment) - When she was saying "pamper me" she is sitting in a bed of marigolds which mean cruelty and grief. This is supposed to represent how she is surrounded by cruelty and grief. Another significant portion of the song is the ending where she sings in a robotic voice to seem as she is being “controlled” into doing these concepts that please the people of the kpop industry. Overall the second meaning is trying to show that the leaders of the kpop industry treat their idols anyway they want to and force them to do concepts that they don’t like. Many groups are forced into doing cute concepts and act like schoolgirls when they are grown women. The song is trying to say that this is some type of “fetish” that some people have, and the kpop leaders and just catering to it. Many song do this, but this song just had a good way of hiding it. Thank you for reading and have a wonderful day! - Chris Edit: Thank you everyone for the likes, and I changed the incorrect lyrics and meanings thank you everyone! :D

She's fine. Myself, and several friends, have worked and with her on different videos over her solo career (RED, How's This). Most of shooting a MV is standing and waiting and doing the same thing over and over and over again. But most of the time just hanging out with other extras. From the times getting to face-to-face with her on set, she'd tell you she's tired. When you are the talent, there is hardly a minute that goes by that someone isn't handling them and directing. And homegirl is a professional. This is not a cry for help. This is a performer who is doing her job well. The sheer amount of mental and emotional resources needed to constantly shift into stage over and over, with consistency is not for quitters. You know her name, have mad love for her and respect her because she is someone deserved of respect in her craft. Support her by representing her brand. She got where she is in this world because she WANTED it more than the next girl and, like Madonna, was gonna get to the top her way. It's Hyuna. She's fine.

Ok but this video is actually powerful. 1. In the beginning she is happy, but it's burned away to reveal behind the scenes of seductive women putting her in a box, definitely showing how her sexuality is boxed up and hidden. Then she emerges dressed as a child, albeit a little racy - kind of a direct punch in the face to K-pop needing female idols to be cute but also sexy - kind of a conundrum. 2. She walks off set to reveal a world beautiful and wonderful, probably her sexuality or the concept of being an adult or her being herself. Something she can only get to if she walks away from the façade that is the industry making her younger (you make me 25, 24, I feel like 21.) Notice how everyone around her keeps dancing as if nothing is wrong; she's the only one who's aware that something is off with the industry and she's one of the few to speak out about it. The message in this video is much more than just our queen Hyuna being adorable and bubbly. This is a masterpiece in disguise. Edit: thanks for all the likes and feedback!

I'm not the first person to make an interpretation on this song, but this is mine. (This feels like it's everywhere and yet so repetitive, but it's just how much thought process is). This is longer than I expected: For the line 'I'm just 26, 26, 26' I believe she was trying to make the statement "Yes, I'm an adult but I'm still young" as kind of the response to the sexualization on her. If you remember, she was asked how she wanted to be seen as and she said "I want to be cute" (or a variation of) while 4minute was still a group. Next we get "Why do you have that creepy smile?" (Google lyrics makes it "Do you keep losing it?" or "What are you looking at?" Which I interpret as "Are you losing your mind? Why are you looking?") is making me believe that many of the stares she was getting were not pure (especially with her image). She was also out into the box, and she made it terrifying by putting her hands on it as a "Help, I'm trapped" instead of kissing it like her image would expect of her. For the box, I feel two different ways regarding of being trapped, but both are negative. I feel like she is symbolizing being trapped in her "Sexy/Sex Appeal" image or that she's trapped by those who are creepy to her. This to me is helped with the lines "Like this, huh? Like this, huh? Why do you keep doing this?" which seems like a preditary thing to me, given the translated lyrics. "I feel like a stranger" and "I am not myself" help that theory too. It seems she was treated in the way she did not like (I cannot put a claim on what happened with no proof or statement) very often that each day she felt like a doll, unable to choose and act for herself. "When tomorrow comes, unimaginable myself. Someone I don't know, someone you don't know. I'll have changed." Seeing these lines put together are just even scarier to me. It seemed like she never knew what was going to happen the next day to her own psyche. "In front of you babe, babe, babe, babe. I never knew I would change like this. When I look at you I unwillingly change. I must want to hear it." is just also uneasy to me again by looking at the lyrics. Could she have been forced to do stuff that made her feel anxious for somebody? Could it be that somebody with the creepy smile she spoke about? The "I must want to hear it" makes me believe she was in someway, shape, or form manipulated to sound like a 'compliment'. When she counts down in age: "You make me 25, 25, 25. You make me 24, 24, 24. I feel like 21, 21, 21. I must want to hear it again" goes in with the previous thoughts: this must have gone on with someone she knew for a while. Whether it was someone in her company, personal life, or sasaengs (fans who invade personal life or are crazy). 'Take me to spend time with you. Why do you treat me like a baby? I can't tell what my age is when I'm with you." To me slightly cancelled out the sasaengs, though obviously they have a way to meddle into an idols life and act as a friend when in reality it's all obsession. Based on the song and my interpretation, it feels like a 'sexual age play' fantasy (however, from what we know HyunA is not apart of the age regression community) she was put in by someone. "Did you cast a spell on me?" (I forgot to mention earlier, but I do not know how to add this without writing longer) sounds like grooming. If you don't know, it's essentially preditary behavior. "I'm anxious because of you" is also a way of saying "I'm scared because of you" so to me, it's about someone who did something obviously BAD to her. "I keep pining for you everyday. Why do I keep squirming?" Also sounds like a sexual activity done at a time in her life where she did not understand. And also keep in mind that South Koreas's education system is different than if you're in the states. When she says "Pamper me" I also take that as a grooming tactic. "You make me 19, 19, 19. You make me 17, 17, 17. I feel like 15, 15, 15." Also gives the vibes that it isn't recent. However, whether it was the same person or not is unclear. It could be, yet it could be someone else. Take that idea as you please. Just keep in mind, she is not happy about it as she stopped dancing once she got at the ages of minors (under 18). (She debuted in Wonder Girls at 15 and 4Minute at 17 by the way!) "I must want to hear it again" is one of the CONSISTENT lines (as for example the age changes), also giving the long term effect. "I can't fall asleep tonight. I can't fall asleep because of you. I can't stop thinking about your gaze and speech. I can't fall asleep because of your eyes. Because if your touch." lead me to believe she feels like she's always watched. And for most people, they feel way to scared to sleep. Another thing is that something happened there whilst she was asleep so she had some troubles to feel safe enough to sleep. I don't take that as a "I'm unable to sleep because I can't stop thinking of how much I love/need/miss/ECT. you". Finally, when she hear "You make me baby girl, baby girl, baby girl. Now I'm your baby girl, baby girl, baby girl." Also give the "I'm trapped in someone's fantasy and I can't get out". But with the robot voice, it's chilling because it's like all emotion is being drained (which can happen to people in typically abusive (emotional or physical situations). Then more for imagery, someone in the comments pointed out that the Galaxy in the begining and the end of the music video were different. It's suddle but hard to forget.

It's not! It was still on the melon chart top 50 (even in the top 20) for awhile. I think it just dropped off, but it comes back on a lot. That's really good for coming out over 5 months ago. This song is pretty popular to be honest. It was just not so well known when it first released due to low promotion, but it got really popular since she's a judge on the unit now. The reason the views are like this is because they're spread out between this channel, and her official channel. That's still pretty good for a solo artist. More views than Triple H lol. So don't worry about it being underrated, because it's really not 😊

its so sad that people cant understand that this is actually referring to someone over her head in the k-pop community. either making her act sexually to get more fans and more money or someones harassing her. ive been a fan of hyuna for a long time and she doesn't say things like "creepy" or have no expression, or even be up against the white wall like that. it also surprised me that she had the bubbly beat in the beginning and she was wearing the white dress cause she almost always dresses kinda inappropriate but not to inappropriate. its just sad. you people need to stop just listening and acualy read the subtitiles and acually pay attention.who knows, maybe hyuna could be getting harrased and someone may be able to stop it if they would acualy pay attention. jimins property also chaelisa's property it's basically talking about how the kpop industry both infantilisez and sexualizes idols simultaneously. Notice how whenever she starts saying she feels 15, then music goes quieter and she walks away with a somber look. Hyuna debuted at 14 with wonder girls and has basically grown up through the spotlight, and no doubt idol life has been awful for her.

deidaraakun Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't the music industry in South Korea against sexy concepts, especially for female artists? They prefer more cute or bubbly concepts right? Unlike the West.

They make me feel like swimming to South Korea ur not wrong. The kpop industry concept for girl groups is this cute image. But they portray this cute image in kind of a creepy way. In where it’s like a fetish- acting all cute like they were little school girls, but dressing in way short skirts and crop tops. It’s almost like a pedophiles fantasy, you know? And in Hyunas case, when she debuted she was portrayed as a sex icon. Even possibly, this is stretching a bit- the song is about her being harassed by an older executive member of her label? Because right when she starts saying she’s 17(which is underage) she turns and looks away. The whole message of this song is so creepy and the fact that some people don’t realize it is even scarier. But the entertainment industry is messed up in all areas of the world. They exploit children.

The ending vocals are so chilling, the way I interpret it is this younger version of HyunA (when she debuted) had completely lost herself and her identity to the industry, it progresses through the song, it goes back in time, at the start, shes 26 and happy, and knows herself and her identity, musical and otherwise, but by the end, it references the way younger her may have felt lost due to the sexualisation from the fans and company

I don't think we should say it's sad, it's empowering. Because she clearly wants us to feel powerful, to make us understand that we can change the society by spreading awareness about the infantilization and pedophilic/ rape culture/behavior that the kpop industry has.

Here the thing: You are not Korean. You are looking at this through your single, western lense. Sure, you like the pop music, but that's about it. You're a consumer and a fan, and that's fine. But unless you are Korean, or have lived in Korea extensively (and any Gyopo will agree; any K-town is Korean, but it is not Korea.) you do not know what you are talking about, and really have no place talking about it. Here is a hard pill to swallow: Believing your singular western lense is the only lense and the correct one, and thinking "well if only I could make them see it how I see it" is also called IMPERIALISM. And if you know ANYTHING about Korea outside of K-pop stage names, you will know how they feel about imperialism. You have a good background, but don't get ahead of yourself. One of real signs of intelligence is knowing when to respect the fact that you don't have the answer, and that you don't know how their culture operates.

@@donnadebruin4163 well first of all, yes I'm not Korean and I understand what you mean by that. But I am from also a country where we are seen as "child" (womxn) so I can partially understand how it feels like to be treated not as an adult, even though you are a fully grown person. Where I am from, we have still colonization consequences (South Native American) and the infantilization of the women is a part of it. I am not saying I can fully understand the complexity of the mechanisms in South Korea. Just saying, we may have different culture and countries if something hurts it's because it's not ok ( and also as ex-colonized countries). In my country such things are also banalized, so I do have "a hint" of the perception I had in the past. I got out of it, because it wasn't healthy at all and it hurt. I didn't mean to say "all these people are doing so bad and blabla or the stereotype that all MOC are hella sexist and blablabl (still, colonized manhood exist)". Because it's false, most of colonized countries have a reason (and still it's not an excuse) why they do banalize that. But is it a reason to just be quiet about it? And just let it pass, even though the people that are implicated feel uncomfortable and stand up also?

Donna deBruin you don’t know if she/he only likes pop music. Also as I said on a comment before to you a private and extremely admired idol school that many of our favorite idols has been exposed for harassing the students by the students themselves and the police. We all have heard from Korean news and from people who live in Korea, were kpop idols, and all of those type of experience saying that idols have been sexually harassed. There are many reports of them now a days still so please also do your research and stop assuming that all of us are Western.

I think this song is a good song (better than I had expected from the album preview) and I love how she became vocalist Hyuna again instead of rap Hyuna (like in Roll Deep, How's This). But Idk, maybe it's just me but doesn't it feel a bit lolita-ish? Especially since she says "Why do you treat me like a baby? I can't tell my age when I'm with you" and "Yes I'm being like a baby, pamper me" then the age she claims she feels like gets younger as the song goes on.

realize how she walked away sad when she got to "15" , it was bc when she was 15 there was a rumor that she was pregnant (and idk if it's true or not).and the fact that she had to deal with all her anxiety and depression for 10years is really sad. she got kicked out of the cube entertainment for dating the one she loves "e-dawn" but now she's at p-nation's entertainment (psy offered her when she got kicked out of cube) and now she's doing whatever she wants, making the music she wants and likes. anyways, if you turn on the subtitles you'll realize that something is off and kinda odd, 0:18 "what are you looking at? why do you have that creepy smile?" you can't tell me that this is normal. and at the box scene 0:33 she didn't do any sexy moves but instead something horrifying happened and i'm afraid to say this but i think that she got raped. and at 0:31 "why do you keep doing that?" hyuna is probably trying to say that the pedophile was harassing her so much and ofc hyuna didn't like it. i hate the fact that she's making this mv look so cute without the subtitles but when you turn the subtitles on you'll get the dark side of the actual song. this isn't just a cute sounding song.. this is a clue that hyuna is giving us a clue that is really important! hyuna is indeed a legend for speaking her mind and not being afraid to tell the truth, we all love you hyuna! fighting~

I've just saw the Gloom's reaction video about this MV and I'm also having bad feelings about some scenes. At 0.28: Maybe I'm overinterpreting things but there is a woman closing the "box" where Hyuna is going. In addition, Hyuna is dressed in a sexy way but she looks young (natural black hair and she debuted super young so that could mean she was trapped in multiple terms: the image made by the company, the company itself...). I don't know why but it reminds me when people are talking about executives meetings idols and entertainers in private bars to obtain opportunities in the industry. At 1.06: The box looks like a scene and with the cute outfit and everything she could be denouncing something (the obligation to act cute in the kpop industry: aegyo, super short school uniforms...). At 2.40: Going more deeper in the interpretation, this game of colors (pink, orange, violet) could means she was on drugs like "in another" world. It feels like she's disconnected/unconscious of everything.

I think this song is about pedophilia. Most NEW kpop groups are getting younger and younger and alot of the time sexualized by their company in songs or performances. As Hyuna keeps rewinding her age and says she feels 15 is because that is when it started, when she started to get harassed. She says she feels younger and younger with this person and turns from the camera at 15 is because this person hurt her when she was a child hence the "I can't sleep" because she's so traumatized by whats been done to her that she can't sleep. At the same time she is constantly watched by this person and is scared of doing something wrong because she might be abused again, or as she said feel young again, when it all started. im sorry if this made no sense its 4am 😅

People saying that this is about her relationship with a younger guy need to wake up. Everything in the music industry is strategically planned. You won't get a dark or weird vibe from a song unless it was done on purpose. Songs and music videos have to be heard and seen by multiple people before they're put out in the world. There are things that can't be explicitly said, and therefore is shown in implicit ways. With that being said, I'm not claiming that something happened to Hyuna. But the fact that a bunch of people got that vibe from watching this tells me that she probably wanted that. The part where she counts down from 19, 17, 15 and starts looking visibly uncomfortable isn't just a coincidence.
