As it was this video had to be cut down from twenty eight minutes so two more locations might have been a bit much. Anyway thanks for your comment Chris and i'm glad you enjoyed it.

Just found this - and it's brilliant. Great camera and sound work, coupled with excellent editing that produces a cohesive narrative. Way, way above average in quality. Thanks.

Thanks for a superb video! Excellent photos of "Bittern". It became a wet job to fill water on the tender! ;-)

You may have missed two locations but you still got a lot of great shots,really liked the tender first running over the river bridge.Chris.

Magnificent. I was on the causeway bridge at Redbridge when it first came down from Romsey and then in Totton when she went through tender-first. I then saw the return run at Totton station.

Thanks for the reply Martyn. Yes, there is a short diesel leg on the Clan Line trip but at least we should get a decent amount of time at Swanage! Hope the weather is okay though. Have fun chasing 5043 and The Great Britain. Hope you get some good footage and I look forward to seeing it on YT.

Thank you for this great video. I live close to a crowded mainline since '53 and here I never have seen a passenger train with the steam engine going reverse. I know that it is no problem but for me it is unused. Here it gives an excellent view on the rare corridor tender. This video is a collection of some interesting highlights. Especially I want to mention the arrival of the D6515 and the scenic pictures from 12:50 on. Can't be done much better! Congratulation, you've really done a great job.

Well done on the filming of this. Beautiful shots of a wonderful loco. I was in Dorset this July and visited the Swanage Railway on a much sunnier day. Great memories and a marvelous heritage railway which I thoroughly recommend visiting.

A wonderful film. Enjoyed every minute. Loved the last 2 clips. The clever way you caught the sunlight in Bittern's exhaust and the smoke effects in the station lights was superb. Barry

You are one of my most loyal supporters and I thank you for your continued support. Tender first running is rare on the mainline mainly because the speed is limited to 45mph. But sometimes it is necessary when there are no facilities to turn the engine.

Well done. It was a treat to view shots which were artistically composed yet still providing all the atmosphere of the steam age.

Very good indeed. I was behind Britannia yesterday, 14/6/12, from London Victoria, and we had the same set-up - tail first into Swanage. I'm off for a longer look at your videos. Excellent stuff!

Thanks very much I'm glad you enjoyed it. I hope you have a good trip on Friday with Clan Line although I see that there's no tender first running on this occasion. Unfortunately I can't make it because I'm going to Devon the next day to see the Great Britain V and 5043 to Plymouth.

Thanks for that Dan. Tender first running is a rarity on the mainline and it certainly made for something different. I hope you got some good results.

Hi James and firstly I apologise for the delay in replying. Thanks for your kind comments and i'm glad you continue to enjoy my (our) videos. I hope you get some good footage in Devon on Saturday and maybe our paths will cross. I'd liked to have followed 5043 into Paddington on Sunday but unfortunately I wont be able to make it.

Another wonderful video Martyn! I always look forward to your efforts appearing on KZbin. The crews really got the best out of 4464 with that heavy load in tow. Are you out for 35028's run to Swanage on Friday? I am on this run and looking froward to it very much.

Thanks for your praise Bob. It really is a joint effort between myself and my brother Alan. In fact his input is greater than mine and one of his duties is to write the description of the day. Another is to edit it all. But nearly all the shots are mine, oh and I do all the driving as well. Thanks again Bob and I hope you continue to view.

Why didnt they use the turntable at swanage
@richardhelliwell12109 жыл бұрын
+GWR4073 Because the loco had worked in tender first to be the right way round for the departure?
@arch9enius8 жыл бұрын
+Richard Helliwell Also, it looked too small
@TheTrainSimGuyI8 жыл бұрын
+GWR4073 The turntable at Swanage MPD is roughly 50ft long limiting its use to tank engines or tender engines only once their tenders have been removed. Since it is impractical to uncouple the tender, turn the locomotive and re-attach it in the same day, visiting locomotives have to turn elsewhere either at Eastleigh or Yeovil. However the Swanage Railway is now in possession of a new turntable, formerly at Old Oak Common MPD and locomotives will eventually be turned on the railway. This is due to possible plans for the new turntable to be placed at Furzebrook sidings as part of the Swanage Railway extension to Wareham, though I cannot confirm this.
