Sunday 14th July, and the second Torbay Express of 2013. The first TE was diesel hauled because of the steam ban that had been imposed due to the prolonged spell of dry weather, but this week Nunney Castle was allowed to head the train, but with 47812 doing most of the work on the climbs.
We begin with two shots near Brent Knoll, the first is on a footpath crossing (with the camera locked off) and the second is by the roadside.
For this year, the water stop in both the down and up directions is at Taunton, so we were able to get to Silk Mills Lane in time to see the train creep up to the red signal at the end of the loop. Following some newly built roads, we managed to get to the footbridge at Norton Fitzwarren Junction just as the Castle was starting away, but because the footbridge is rather shaky, so is the video.
Thanks to some surprisingly empty roads , we were able to reach Churston a few minutes ahead of the train, for a fifth shot.
At Kingswear we covered the various stock movements, before doubling back to Churston to see 5029 returning from servicing at Paignton.
The return starts with two shots at Cockwood (the second one has an unexplained drop in audio volume) and ends with a fast runpast at Yatton.
