I literally just opened back up clip studio paint after almost 8 months to a year of not touching it on my Wacom Studio Pro. Just haven't had the flame to draw and had a piece waiting on me to finish. This shading assist is a huge game changer. Literally apply shadows and highlights for you and after some fine tuning and cleaning up you have what you want. Literally struggle with my shadows and highlights for my work, but with this I feel I can gain more confidence with that and work to get stronger in that department.

Great video. I am amazed by the hand video capture. That is crazy. Not something I would use often, but still. Love the new mixing paint, as I am also a traditional artist and that will really translate between digital and traditional much easier for me. But the break out that totally blew my mind is the shading tool. Holy paint buckets! That could be a HUGE timesaver. I tend to work a lot of colors into my shadows anyhow, but to have this baseline in a couple of clicks... .NUTS! Love Clip Studio. Been my go to for the last 10 years.

There are actually several somewhat more minor features hidden away, so it's definitely worth exploring. One "extra" with the type tool is that you can drag out a text box (independent of balloon or caption container) and the text will flow into that. Now, if CSP could just implement hyphenation tables--!

The "hand scanner" was one of the biggest selling points for this update, and I'm seeing it's a bit disappointing: it does not scan the _hand_ (which starts from the wrist), it only scans the _fingers._ Granted, you can adjust the wrist manually, but then Celsys branding the feature as a "hand" scanner is misleading. The new 3D head models are a big no-brainer for me though. I might be upgrading just for that feature alone.

How sophisticated is the auto shader? Shading a human face is one of the trickiest things for a beginner so it would be interesting to see how it handles that. The example of the video (shading a head in profile) doesn't really showcase the tools limits.

I'm still not going to give up my one-time-purchsed version for the subscription-based 2.0. If I wanted to pay an outrageous subscription to a program, I'd have got Photoshop long ago. Yes, these new features and updates are amazing, but I'm not giving up what I already own in exchange for something I have to pay the company for permission to use every month so I can access my own files.

Not here to sway you, and you can feel however you do about it, but i just wanted you to know that you aren't "giving up" on your current version. You can use your current version forever, no matter if you get an update or not. The pass is 10 bucks a year, too; not as outrageous as photoshop either.

You can get the perpetual license, though without the yearly pass, you'll get the new features a lot later. I only bought perpetual for now. Will wait and see if I really need the next v2 updates. If not, I'll just stay with the basic v2 features since I'll be getting the new ones when v3's out anyway.

As far as I understand it; if you already have a perceptual license, you can just get an update pass like Adolin mentions. And then when the next big update with features comes out, you can buy the update IF you want the newest version. (I might have some details wrong because it IS a bit complicated). So you don't have to buy the entire license every time (like with previous Adobe software before it became a subscription-app).

I haven't used the 3D models until now, mostly bc I felt like it would be too much "cheating" and most art I see using the 3D models looks like they traced it way too tight...but I really think I will start using them now. Along with the shading AI. I am currently working on my very first comic and while I think my art is adequate and I think my story will be good, I am taking WAY too long to do pages. I've been working on it since last July and I only have 5 pages done...

I have seen people using the 3D models in different "degrees" if that makes sense. While someone uses them by tracing over them, because that's what's most helpful for them, I've also seen people use them just as a reference - copying the pose as best as they can on a seperate canvas. It's totally up to you how much you want to get assisted, and it's definitely possible to use them in much less degree than others ^^ Beeest of luck with your comic!

How this shading assistance work on 2d image without information about volume of the subject? Also shading involves highlighting, mid tone, darker tone and shadow. This one doesn’t look well sort out.
