Hey there, I dont know if you're reading these still but you just saved me big time. I had a coolant leak when I was out of town. I didn't have the proper tools and couldn't seem to locate the source. It was leaking too bad to travel and it was too far to tow home so I took it to a shop with a lot of good reviews. I was told it was the water pump and it cost me a good chunk of money to get it repaired but when I got the car back it was pulling the p2015 code. Of course the car had 130,000 miles and that's only covered to 120,000. I didn't have money to fix the new problem so I had to drive around for a while with the check engine light on and suffer through rough starts among other issues and I managed to get the money to buy a new manifold. I watched your video a couple times and dug in on the repair myself. I got the old manifold out and transferred the throttle body and the other parts over and installed the new manifold. I cleared the codes and started the car and it immediately pulled the p2015 again. I started searching for other causes when I ran across this video and happened to watch it. I didn't realize there was an updated manifold. My old manifold was exactly the same as the new one so I was curious. Apparently I already had the updated version which was probably from the previous owner. So why was I having a problem? Anyway, as you were going over the differences, around 3:14 you mention that the metal nipple on the vacuum is supposed to be open. WTF? My old manifold had a little rubber traffic cone looking thing on that nipple and I had transferred it over! I ran to my car and managed to get the nipple off without taking anything else apart. I cleared the codes again, started it up and the problem is gone! I'm pretty sure that mechanic had seen the mileage on my car and stuck that on there, knowing it would pull the code and would be out of warranty. It makes me wonder if my water pump was even the original problem or if it was just a leaky hose. If you see this, thank you so much for saving me in the end. You also may want to make a video about how a dishonest mechanic can do this and maybe save more people from this issue. Thanks again.

Having the same issue. Waterpump replaced and now I have a p2015 code... Are you/ were you running a tune?
@bradleyparrett4483
@bradleyparrett4483 4 жыл бұрын
@@eyeareels9451 No tune, just stock. See the metal nipple he is touching at 3:25? That was covered. It needs to be open because its a vent. When installed, it's on the bottom of the manifold on the right side. You may be able to see it with a small mirror or you may be able to reach under and feel it. Make sure that nipple is not covered. If it's not covered then you may need to remove the manifold and see if that tube is clogged rather than capped. If it's not that nipple then I can't help, sorry!

If you look carefully in the video between about 3:40 and 3:50, you can see both manifolds are marked "PA6 GF30." This means 30% glass fiber reinforced polyamide. In other words, the composition of the material is the same on old and new manifolds.

you and Paul are great resources for nearly all things VAG. more than just showing how it's done, you guys take the time to explain failures and common issues to great lengths so your viewers and owners can understand them; pretty sure I speak for everyone when I say that we really appreciate that time and devotion you guys offer to your viewers and communities.

I had the pleasure of having every dash light come on at once today... 37 engine codes... Thankfully, I believe the Intake manifold will resolve almost all of them. The car still starts, but misfiring, aggressively idle, etc., no odd sounds, knocking, or ticking.

Thank you so much! Been having issues on and off for a year and this allowed me to figure out that it was the actuator arm broke from the flaps creating a large vacuum leak. Having you mention the extended warranty saved me big bucks too. Thanks again!

I just threw a P2015 code today in my 2009 Audi A4. I'm going to have Audi fix it. Like you said, Audi has extended the warranty to 10 years or 120k from what I understand. I can report back. Thanks for the vids!

Charles, You always fill videos with so much information they have helped me in ways I assume you never really imagined. Thank you for the videos you have created over the years which have been so helpful even if the primary content of the videos is not what helped me in my research! Sometimes comments you make in the videos have helped me to understand something I was trying to figure-out on my own as a "thrifty VW DIY mechanic"! This one, for instance, helped me to understand that the runners hyperextend when the throttle is wide-open, go beyond their stops and create the sensor fault...a condition fixed by the new manifold design... but I used the ECS intake manifold repair kit, properly applied (thanks to one of your comments) to my intake to fix the P2015 problem I was having. I have other examples of how you have helped me... if you ever desire feedback.

I am a disabled vet so money was always tight . Me and my parents were always american car and truck buyers . It was not allowed to buy anything but american. So when I moved out for 12 years before going in the NAVY on submarines . I always bought american and since my dad was a mechanic over 20 years when I was 17 but growing up the places he worked at since it was taxi places let me help from the age of 7 . I swept floors and other things but he showed me from oil change to engine and trans replacement I seen there belair taxi with over 300k . I went in the NAVY and got sent over seas to Holy loch scotland and you could not get american cars over there and since I was a e-4 at the time the NAVY would not pay to ship my car over .But when I got sent to Kings Bay GA I got back into american. But after buying blazers and other SUV and small cars I had so many problems with the transmission on the suv s . I did all the proper maintenance , I bought a toyota camry and had it for 5 years with over 200k on it .I hate to say this but toyota makes some pretty good cars right now I have a scion xa with 120k and small easy to fix except the inner wheel bearing which was a common failure. MY family down south still complains to me about not buying american so to make them happy I bought a 1961 stripped down fairlane with a 4 banger so far 3 years no problem I have been in NY up 90 miles from NYC so salt is the main killer not my cars mechanics .

Just wanted to say thanks for the video. My MKV came up with the p2015 code and the dealership replaced it for free under warranty. Would have never known if it wasn’t for your video. I appreciate it. Also your video helped me switch out the pcv with little to no trouble (dropping the torx bolt into the engine bay) keep up the good work. I’m about to switch out the upper timing chain cover because now that’s leaking. 😕

hey, HumbleMachanic, if you want to know if the plastic is different, there should be a marking on it, European companies are usually really good about marking them. I saw in the video that the new one is PA6-GF30 meaning it is nylon that is glass filled 30%. That is the same stuff good power tools is made out of, it is very stong.

so good on vdub for improving the manifold but I know ive gotten good at pulling these things off and depending on mileage performing and intake valve cleaning I could have it done in and hour and a half. easy money on warranty. 120k and its customer pay after that. ill be sad to see that go but happy to see the line is always getting better! It's been 7 years, but I thought I'd toss a note out there, the vacuum solenoid has an extra vent port at the back, but it is *not* supposed to be left open. You are supposed to install a tube that terminates in a filter to prevent the solenoid from drawing in dirt and moisture and falling prematurely. The part number for this "breather hose" is 06H-133-583F. I actually came to this video hoping to find out the correct way of mounting it once installed. 😅

Same here mate, I will steer away from german cars as I have had numerous problems with my low mileage gti. German cars are unreliable, especially considering how much you pay for them. So from an engineering point of view I think they're crap if they keep breaking down and continuously revise their parts which they don't get right in the first place.

But everybody has different experiences of the same brand... also the chances are there's someone out there with an '04 Toyota' that's had numerous issues as well. I've got a 2001 Golf on 135,000 miles and she runs like clockwork 7 days a week.. that's not to say they're perfect, but I don't think all VAG cars are 'crap'.

The car all of a sudden started sputtering as if bad gasoline and not being able to go any faster than 20 30 mph. Oh and let me say right in the middle of a busy large highway with trucks going by me a mile a minute. Then I get a EPC and engine light going on my dash. Rev up to 2 and back down and back up to 2 rpms. So, I put this octane booster Nada. Opened the hood I hear air. I checked the hoses. I sprayed some cleaner and found a spot. As I kept looking and checking for a loose hose, cracked plastic I notice the actuator popped back up as I probed and pulled. So, seems its the intake actuator. That little arm you spoke about on this video. Tomorrow, buying this intake actuator. I am being told VW does not sell it individually. So I have to buy the whole intake -.- Since I am a new owner to a 2015 VW CC 2.0 Turbo Sport what else do I need to know about this car that I should change now before it goes? My car has no warranty. Should I stick to OEM parts? It gets $$$ :( Thank you for the video because it is helped me actually confirm my findings. Not a pro like you or most guys here But I have done a little here and there. Thank you for the video and everyone here for any recommendations or advise. I have subscribed :)

Back in around 2010 we had the same/similar problem in the Ford shop I used to work at (in Europe) It was on the 1.8 and 2.0 gasoline engines and at first we replaced the flaps and installed stronger bushings untill Ford came with complete manifold to replace the broken ones. One time I had an engine where the rod that hols/flips the flaps was broken and one of the flaps had been "eaten" my the engine. Imagine the damage that caused to the valves!

Thank you for your videos!! It helped me a lot with my personal case! I have a 2009 Scirocco 2.0 TSI and i had the intake sensor error since last year but could only buy the intake last month, i was surprised when i got it and saw the arm was different... But when i connected the vacuum line, i connected it to the new metal one, so i still had an error and the flap was stuck all the way open. It took me a while to get it, but ended up putting the old solenoid that wasn't faulty and i finally got rid of the error... Now i only have the wastegate flap that it's making noise..... -.-"

I already put one anti rattle clip in and the noise went away, but i could still ear it slighlty (i think the clip only mutes a bit the sound of the rattle) So either it dropped at one time, wich i think that it is impossible when i think of the the trouble i had to get it in or the arm of the flap itself it's sideways like in one of your videos and in that case you know how it is.... Here in europe this engine is rare and the Scirocco's even more rare, so i'm happy that i can find all the good info in your channel! Keep up the good work mate! ;)

I just installed this (BH) revision manifold in my 09 GTI. I also had to get a new fuel rail (06J-133-317-AB) because my old fuel rail(06J133317J) wouldn't line up. Bolt holes were about half a hole off. New rail fits perfectly, but I also had to change the brass fitting( old rail had male threads for fuel line, new revision had female). After all that extra headache, I still throw code p2015...☹️

Alexander Klein No matter what kind , it eventually gets hard dry and gets brittle and cracks. Plasticizers and other big worded chemicals outgas from it and that's it. Here's food for thought. The faa says no locking bolts containing nylon or other items like that are allowed from the firewall forward. That's more for fire protection ,but lemme use an Italian accent : itsa notta good

OK, I'm gonna weigh in against the haters, as a former hater myself, just about every car nowadays is going to have problems, because of all the technology in them, the government forcing emissions and CAFE ratings down manufacturers throats etc. I have a 2008 Ford F-150, the most common pattern failures on that generation (2004-2008) were as follows: cam phase actuators, cam phaser solenoids, timing chains, timing chain tensioners, (interference motor BTW, out time = CRUNCH on the valvetrain) 4wd vacuum solenoids, 4wd actuator hubs, radiators, blend doors/actuators/cam plates, axle seals, carrier bearings on the LWB trucks, instrument panels failing, and if you do them wrong, spark plugs breaking in the heads, and failing fuel pump control modules( mounting aluminum parts on a steel frame, where water and salt can get to it, not the best design, but there's an update with standoffs that screw into the frame, to prevent it from corroding and breaking) my truck is approaching 140k now, I've put a radiator in, 2 sets of plugs and coils (coils are junk, so bad, Ford only charges like $40 at the dealer for new ones) one LF 4wd hub, a blend door, and now it seems my instrument cluster is on the fritz, everything else has been regular maintenance honestly. Forgot the front caliper that locked up, which can happen to ANY vehicle with that kind of time on the clock. I've experienced NONE of the other failures I've mentioned. My point here is this: just because it happens on others, doesn't mean it will happen to YOURS. I started in this industry when MK4 was new, they taught me to hate this brand, but MK6 and now MK7, are making me more willing to give then a fair shake, just my 2 cents, take it for what it's worth. I will say this, VW can't keep relying on the Jetta and the GTI to keep them in business too much longer, especially now that TDI has taken a YUGE hit, German cars used to be synonymous with top quality, as a German myself, I'd like to see that make a comeback. Last, but not least, Charles, thanks for the awesome videos that have inspired me to revive what I thought was a dead-end career, and to try something new, as I'm going to an Audi dealer or two tomorrow, to try and snag my first ever dealership job as a technician.

Plastic manifold doesn’t inspire confidence. I have a 2008 GTI FSI and a 2008 Jetta 2.5. I actually just had a turbo fail in the GTI😔 and the Jetta is having some wiring issues unfortunately. That said, other than turbo no major fails so far at 100k on both cars. My biggest complaint is the amount of oil VW burns. Other than that I don’t think VW is any less reliable than any other brand. The key is proper care.

And by the way its about time VW started doing what they used to do really well. Making solid reliable cars that very rarely broke. Just not the case any more. Built by accountants and sold by marketing men on past reputation.

For those still looking at this, note that if you go from the old revision to this new one, you will also need to replace the fuel rail with a new revision as well as the bolt holes do not line up on the old fuel rail to the new manifold. So if you are replacing this yourself you'll likely be looking around $500-$800 in parts and not just the price of the intake manifold.

For anyone looking at this guy's comment, HE IS WRONG! I have an 09 GTI, which is the FIRST model of the TSI engine. I just replaced my intake manifold with this new updated one and it was a straight swap. I can kind of see how he may have thought that the rail did not align but you have to stick the top bolts of the intake manifold on first then it aligns perfectly.

Question: Differences in 1.8 and 2.0, the engines seem to be a lot alike, other than the 200 cc difference in displacement; are the problems of the 2.0 inherent in the 1.8? Here in Australia the VW Audi group has their fans, but a steadily growing army of discontented customers. Mercedes is beginning to get a very bad name now, in fact, anything European. I have heard tow truck drivers say that if it wasn't for the European cars, their businesses would be rather quiet as a whole. All cars have their problems. The discontent is growing with the dealerships and their abysmal customer service. From denial of the problem to a constant run around in order to avoid the issue (or warranty claim). Mazda, Hyundai and Kia are now getting on top of the game here with great customer service and decent warranties. Prices of European parts are another issue. A genuine VW radiator hose (the one with the little hose out of the side of it) is listed at $1400 and you have to wait for it to be shipped from Germany - about 6 - 12 weeks wait. Mercedes S class engine mount. One lasted 48 000 kms and was just out of warranty. Sorry mate, here's your bill...... $3500. The owner trying to argue a case was dismissed and pushed back and forth between the Mercedes HQ in Oz and the dealer. The guy ended up paying just to get his car back. Pretty inexcusable customer support for a $100K plus vehicle. But is typical. The word is getting out here that the European cars are nothing but trouble and horrendously expensive to fix. A friend of mine did his apprenticeship with VW here and he keeps telling all his friends to keep away from them and anything else European. They may (?) work well in other countries, but their reliability reputation here is quite poor and even worse the dealership customer support is usually highly reprehensible.

Hi Charles, Awesome video! I need some help or advice please if you can spare a minute. I have a VW Tiguan with a 2lt TSI. It has been throwing code P2015 intake manifold sensor, so i started to hunt for the manifold upgrade. Found one at ECS Tuning in the states and they will ship to Australia for me however they are saying i need to upgrade the fuel rail as well to use this manifold. what are your thoughts on this? As of today the Tiguan started misfiring and there is a sound like a vacuum leak around the inlet manifold. The OBD codes are P0300, P0303, P0304, P0302 and P0301 in order. Is this all part of the same problem with the inlet manifold do you think? I love your videos and you helped me heaps with the TSI timing belt. Thanks for your time Andrew

Charles, had my 2009 TSI manifold replaced last year under warranty. 48K miles now and decided to remove the intake to clean the valves. Have you heard the new design does not have the support (10mm trip and 13mm nut) under the throttle body? Looks like it was never there or the dealer tech didn't feel like putting it back when he replaced the intake? Not sure if I need to source one or just put it back together the way it was...? Got my gasket and injector seals from Deutsche and was told my intake should be the latest revision...?

Great vids! I watched the Scirocco VR6 swap videos and got the VW bug again. No pun intended. I recently picked up a really nice '08 Jetta 6spd. Great little car, but I'm getting a surging idle when I come to a stop. It'll rev up to about 2k rpm, then somewhere in between 1-k, then idle smoothly. Pulled the PCV out and it was torn. Easy fix, but the idle surge hasn't subsided. In fact, I'm showing misfires on all 4 cyls. I'm not detecting a vacuum leak, at least I haven't been able to find one using the old propane trick. Any thoughts? Idle control valve? Could it be the manifold?
