Jeremy. What is the number system mean. Either 1-2-2 or this 2-1-2. Is it how the players are positioned on the ice or does it mean something else? Thank you.

it's the attack formation. 2-1-2 means the first two forwards attack deep in the zone, the third forward stays in the middle, and the two defensemen are high on the blue line. a 1-2-2 has one man pressuring deep, two forwards covering the middle, and the two defensemen are back on the blue line.

I always tell my goalies they need to understand the systems too. This will help you read the opponent’s forecheck ☺️
