Thank you very much. Never played but, been watching hockey for a lot years and never knew these strategies. You make sense of what seems to be chaos at times. Hockey is so much better to watch when you what is going on. Tough sport, things happen so fast and so many decisions need to be made. I love hockey, hockey, hockey, hockey!

Great concept with the animals for youth hockey. I feel they can really embody the qualities of each animal and take that role on.

This is great stuff! This forecheck allows the team to control the middle of the ice and jump on turnovers to attempt scoring chances in a prime slot area. Maybe assign letters to each player on the forecheck to be able to distinguish the roles as the defense moves the puck around and they rotate.

This is great, and I think it’s pretty spot on. The only thing I see being an issue is your F2 going the entire width of the ice to also be F2 on weak side if the puck goes d2d. At a youth level they’ll never get there. F3 goes hard into the corner and it’s an easy break out up the boards. The oppositions weak side wing will be up high middle and will have half the distance to get to the wall compared to your F2 that is supposed to cover him. I could be wrong, just my immediate thought at a glance

Thank you for the awesome explanation. Really helps when explain how to adapt to getting beat in the ideal scenario and then switch it to a defensive play.

I love this. I think I will add that my weakside d goes down if that pass doesn’t connect below the goal line and ends up in the corner. If it does connect and their toe caps are up ice and in control, then yes i want the f3 to go and then f1/f2 reload. Either way, i like using animals in to help explain the roles. Everyone understands a chasing dog…and a hawk sitting on the tree branch. Not many foxes here in St. Louis….. unfortunately. Lol. Thank you!!!!
