Haha still have it running to this day on 2125Mhz and 850+ on the ram >< Since launch still rocking no wear and tear so far. Only the CPU is changed in the years to nowadays a 7800X3D. The GPU is still good for what I do with it. Gonna replace it when 5080-90 comes out I guess. edit: It always ran on watercooling.

Games and most benchmarks don't fully stress it like Unigine Heaven. Make sure you run a couple passes of that before calling numbers stable. I was over 2.1 easily on others (even valley and the 3Dmarks) but came down to 2062 on boost clock, 5828 ram after Heaven. Temps maxed at 71 with no throttling, fans on auto.

beretta9m2f that's why the power draw was so high. The cpu controls the pcie lanes. That's why when you have some broke pins you won't have a pcie slot working or some ram slots. So when he dropped it it choked and broke and kept running tho while it was on and was shoving a lot of power to the pcie lane and it got stuck there at that.

I hybrid water cooled my Strix 1080 Ti with a Kraken G12 and a H55... I get 2050Mhz on the core and 6000Mhz(12Ghz) on the memory, I barely hear the fans and the temps stay around 45-50c never seen it above 55c. I kept the back plate for that strix logo RGB swag.

Just so you guys know, when you overclock these cards, or any of the nVidia GP10x CPU's, your power requirement ramps up almost exponentially. Like to go from 1800 - 2000Mhz, lets say the card notmally needs 100 Watts, TDP it will ramp up to like 200 or 300 watts for just a couple of hundred MHz, basically doubling, tripling sometimes the power requierments

Congrats on the new kid. when you get your RMA, +600 mhz on the memory may crash under time spy even though it is fine in firestrike. At least It would on a 1070. I suggest you should test it as it could be unstable, it will impact other dx12 game play.

You better undervolt on 1080ti ... you get 2.1ghz ok but you will hit the power limit so many times then your gpu gonna downclock under 2ghz .... you better undervolt for example i get 2012mhz for only 1.000v, at stock you will get like 1.075v for 2038mhz depend of gpu, so the point here is gpu are overvolted at stock, better undervolt you will clock a bit lower but you will never clock down (throttle) and less rarely hit the power limit, result in better stability in clock (never go under 2012mhz) at 2.1ghz trust me you will throttle under 2ghz . And fan more silent, for maybe 2 fps loss lol

@@plummet3860 Most 1080ti cards can get to 2.1GHz with no voltage increase and much lower than stock idle temps at continuous full load when water cooling. Of course to do this with air cooling is dumb as all cards get noisy as all hell and every card design will get to max temperature within minutes of full load or even partial 3D loading.

Ryzen died for science. Make the computer frame stable on the desk to prevent damage. On a side note, I use my Aorus 1080 Ti (non-Xtreme) inside a closed case (well vented one). 2063 MHz/11800 MHz full stable in furmark, all games and benchmarks. 6201 in Extreme 1080p SuperPosition. Can do Unigine SuperPosition Extreme 1080p on 2075 MHz/12000, but getting minor artefacts on furmark, so I dropped to a saver 2063 MHz/11800 MHz, which is far above what your Strix could deliver on a open system. Conclusion: The Strix OC is nothing special and does not deliver compared to Aorus, OR I'm lucky with the silicon lottery, OR you have different issues with the setup, which would be no surprise to as you throw a working machine around the table.

The PSU you get shouod only be used 80% at maximum load. A 750 or 850W PSU should do just fine. A 650W PSU would be risking it.

Donovan Haacke 650w isn't risking anything, 500 or 550W 80+gold is what you need. On my gaming PC, 1800X @4.15GHz, 1080ti @2101/6156MHz running Asus real bench (which can push graphics and CPU to 100% simultaneously), my power usage measured from the wall was only 349 to 388 watts.

Some positive criticism and I don't mean to sound like a dick :) .... Please PLEASE DON'T balance your setup like that against the wall m8. It looks unprofessional and you saw what happens when everything comes crashing down. And the whole thing almost flipped over again, had you not caught it all in time. Perhaps a short was created when it fell, and busted the CPU somehow. Just guessing. Lastly, a request. Can you do a soundcard test at some stage? I find reviews on standalone soundcards rare from tech review channels. I'd like to know how much impact there still is on fps from onboard sound - I know that realtek has lifted their game substantially over the past 10 years or so. But is it still worth getting standalone cards and do they still provide less resource drain on the CPU in comparison to onboard solutions? Keep up the good work m8 :)

According to later comments, it was the ram (due to RGB bug?). He reached +5 fps in Rise of the Tomb Raider before crashing, so that's something I guess. Probably the most helpful video on 1080ti overclocking I'll ever watch. Why mess with perfection...
