Historical fact: The Aizu Han samurai actually codified a set of proper conduct for war and human rights in 1790 which was before the first Geneva Convention of 1864. They expressively forbid their warriors to commit looting, arson, rape and other human rights violations in a war time situation. The Aizu samurai were not just noted for their martial abilities but also for their moral behavior and loyalty to the Tokugawa Shogunate.
