These 3 Italian girls are talented. Congratulations to win the second prize. I hope they will keep practicing KaTa. To learn the authentic Karate, it is important to focus on not just athleticism of Karate but also the spirit of Karate, Japan should send more good mentors (not coaches or instructors) to other countries. Like those 3 Italian girls are deserved to learn it from the best Karate master. (from Japan)

Ma Ta I agree. Being an italian karateka myself, I find a lack of Japanese masters here concerning not only Karate but all Budo. The strange thing is that we used to have some of the best Japanese masters in the past, 30/40 years ago. I would like to tell this story that occurred here in Italy. There was a great Dojo in Rome named "Fiamma Yamato", where my uncle was taught in Kendo and Iaido by Hideo Kobayashi Sensei. There were only Japanese masters in that Dojo. Kobayashi, whom only had 11 students by his own choice, was the best master one could ever hope to have. Unfortunately he committed seppuku here in Rome at the age of 50, in the 80's. He left 11 Haiku, one for each student he had. He was, and is, considered a true unequaled master. One on a million. He left his own Shinai to my uncle and now I have the honor to preserve it myself. I have been very lucky to study Iaido and Kendo with my uncle, being him student of Kobayashi, and to preserve his very own Shinai. Even though I am a former Karateka, I rarely heard of Japanese masters here now, and met only a couple who live and teach in Rome. Plus, I have no respect for Italian institutions and associations that regulate Karate in my country. They tear and shred the very meaning of Budo for sporting and senseless purpose, and rank master people who shoud not teach. I was member of those associations until kuro obi shodan, then read so many books by Japanese ancient masters of Budo and Zen to understand that when you have no true master, you have to be your master yourself, and find strenght in past ages. I forced to make Tsunetomo Yamamoto teach me through Hagakure, or Miyamoto Musashi through Gorin no Sho, or Takuan Soho and so on. I achieved nidan with a good italian master and now studying for sandan, though I won't ever again subscribe to an association to award me with a card telling me what I achieved in my life. I hope I did not bother or upset anyone with my super long comment, I just desire Budo to be considered and respected here in Italy as in any other place in the world for such the sublime thing it is. And for all the people that died for it, since it was born.

I don't know much of Karate and I can't say which team performed better. The whole of the final sequence by team Japan made me think of Matrix-the movie whilst the Italian team performed a sequence that I'd say more down-to-earth and plausible of a combat between karatekas. I liked the Italian team better as I got the impression that team Japan put on a great show just to astound the audience rather than recreate a combat sequence that was impressive and at the same time believable.
@b89oj4 жыл бұрын
And one last thing. During the whole performance I kept thinking of the Italian team leader as Rey Palpatine from the last three movies of the Star Wars saga. She looks somewhat similar with her ponytail and fierce look. Give her a lightsaber and we might be looking at a whole different kind of show ahah
@juergen69194 ай бұрын

the Japanese show real fighting towards the other female on their team but Italy didn't show tht much energy punches...I guess the judges were looking for something tht shows they have a strong energy and impressive good form :3 in my calculations

hounoNotenshi04 I agree! In fact, I believe that's what lost the Italy men's team their final against Japan. The bunkai concentration was solely on Luca Valdesi, so it felt like an action movie more than impressive honestly.

Osu!
@antonioborriello61878 жыл бұрын

@juergen69194 ай бұрын

Definitively: as Tamano Sensei said, karate is like the water inside a bowl it is hot till it has fire under, and the fire is the practice :) I'm 54 and after 35 of practice I've resigned karate practice and teaching, so I'm no more than an old karate practitioner and a "former" goju master ..master ;)

Beautiful movements, yet what i miss, with all respects, are extra comments of directions (selecting defence in direction of the starting hand) and preference for lower level counterattacks ( if we are shorter than the opponent), which could only help, particularly the beginners.
