I'm letting my CDL lapse. There's not enough profit in trucking anymore to justify the time away from home. I can make almost as much in the next 3 months doing Christmas lights as I did all year in trucking. If the oil fields in West Texas open up again I may consider it, and just have to take the test again.

We would pick $20.00 a mile $2.10 your using the fuel and not hardly making any income. We us our tablet for GPS and other things. So we can use our cells for personal use or business. Wrecker's had to get a cattle trailer and semi out of the ditch. The driver was cut off by somebody pulling up in front of him and doing brake checks that driver was caught by Highway Patrol Officer's and she's getting charged.

If it's 20 dollars a mile for 20 miles and 2.20 a mile for 3500 miles... I'd probably take the latter. It's all relative. Here lately I've been doing longer cheaper loads and end up with more profit but I know I'm wearing out my truck faster. Any way you do it will have trade offs

A lot of jacknives can be caused by driving with the cruise and/or engine break engaged on wet roads. Causes hydroplaning resulting in a soup sandwich type ordeal. Damp/wet roads:no cruise or engine break. However, perhaps that driver had a tire leave the roadway for one reason or another and did the right thing by not pulling it back on resulting in that water logged earth pulling the front of his unit left as it entered and dug in...still better than a roll over.

Sounds to me like Truck Smarter needs to develop an ELD app. Maybe that would be a conflict of interest but in all practical purposes would be beneficial to all. A detail oriented company offering what needs to be very detailed. Not a fan of "tracking" even though we all basically are through cell towers.

When I did LTL I HATED double blind shipments. We'd thro away the bol and use a "corrected" one that showed the final destination. That way the shipper didn't know where it was REALLY going, and the consignee didn't know where it came from. I was always told it was done like that because the "middle man" company mislead their customers into thinking they were the manufacturer instead of just the distributor.
