When it comes to Recalling Knowledge I let the players ask 2 questions on a Crit Fail or a Success (also on a regular fail if they have Dubious Knowledge) and on a Crit Success I let them ask 2 or 3. If there is something I think is very important to know on a Crit Success I will tell them that first. If they ask about Resistances and there are non, I will give them a weakness if there are any. If neither apply I will let them know something damage type related like how to turn off a creatures regeneration or if a certain damage type will gain rider effect like sickened or slowed (ala Frogemoth). I treat it like the "What do I hit it with?" question. I will give the name first and then some lore. I will usually include in that lore what plane the creature is from. I give a lot of info because lets be honest, 80% of creatures will only be experienced by a player once, so I want them to know how cool the monsters are too.
@BlueSapphyre11 ай бұрын
RAW The PC gets to ask 2 questions on a crit success, 1 question on a success, and 1 question on a crit failure in which you give them false information. With dubious knowledge, you get 2 questions on a failure, one answered truthfully, the other is false information.
@KingFate2011 ай бұрын
@@BlueSapphyre I know and explicitly don't run it that way. I give them MORE information. Even the way I run it, the chances that a player spends an action, succeeds at the check, AND gets useful information that anyone in the party can benefit from is fleetingly low. Asking for an action and heavy investment in otherwise useless skills for what often is just finding out a weakest save feels bad. Especially when you could just throw a Demoralize/Trip/Grapple and get a chance at doing something while feeling out their saves based on the degree of success.
@BlueSapphyre11 ай бұрын
@@KingFate20 Sure. House rules are fine. Just leaving the comment for anyone else that's reading to know what the actual rules are.
@therantinggm-gd8ty11 ай бұрын
The actual rule is: "A character who successfully identifies a creature learns one of its best-known attributes-such as a troll’s regeneration (and the fact that it can be stopped by acid or fire) or a manticore’s tail spikes. On a critical success, the character also learns something subtler, like a demon’s weakness or the trigger for one of the creature’s reactions." Or they can ask specific questions like "What's its worse save?" or "What is it weak to?" Players can also try again "After a success, further uses of Recall Knowledge can yield more information, but you should adjust the difficulty to be higher for each attempt. Once a character has attempted an incredibly hard check or failed a check, further attempts are fruitless-the character has recalled everything they know about the subject." Not only does this help GM's determine what they're going to tell the party, but it also helps them figure what piece of wrong information to give on a crit fail, or when players use the Dubious Knowledge feat.

I do agree more with Troy that giving specific numbers on things like Resistances kinda takes you out of the narrative a bit. If a creature has, say, Resistance 5 Bludgeoning and Resistance 10 Fire, you could be like: This creature's thick hide is a little difficult to bludgeon and is very heat resistant. I feel like that gives the information narratively without just stating the numbers.
@BlueSapphyre11 ай бұрын
I agree on the specific numbers. But the general "In your past studies, you know that this is weak to fire." doesn't seem like it removes the narrative.

Great stuff! WB Troy. I had some thoughts about Zephyr that might be worth checking out. I think in the past you mentioned having her drop a bow to get out of monastic archer stance - I don’t think she has to do that. You can perform unarmed attacks while holding a weapon (feet, legs, knees, etc). I think Zephyr could do her usual round (stance, flurry with bows), then if needed, on a subsequent round move up do flurry with legs/feet (which drops her out of stance since it violates stance) while still holding her bow. I think she could even do a stunning strike. You need to check my math, but I think it works. It would be more flexible and really cinematic! Zephyr unleashes her arrows, then runs in performing a series of roundhouse kicks and stuns her opponent!
@yellowpetelol641711 ай бұрын
The stance itself restricts her to only making bow strikes, and you can't just drop out of it for free - only by violating its requirements or entering another stance.
@CarlosRodriguez-dd4sb11 ай бұрын
@petelol6417 Isn't making only bow strikes one of the requirements? I think it is meant to be that making bow strikes to REMAIN in the stance, not exit. " While in this STANCE, the only Strikes you can make are those using longbows, shortbows, or bows with the monk trait...A stance lasts until you get knocked out, until its requirements (if any) are violated."
@yellowpetelol641711 ай бұрын
@@CarlosRodriguez-dd4sb No, the Requirements are a separate block in the beginning of the feat and specifically called out as such: you must be unarmored and wielding a bow. Everything after that, including the sentence you quoted, describes the effects of the stance, not its requirements.

Hate to mention this again. But focus and other meta currency brings me out of immersion. A lot of PF2 is reminiscent of 4e. If Troy was forcing them forward without all the down time we would have a lot of tpks and no podcast. So a sense of urgency is often removed from the podcast because we need to stop and allow the characters to remarshall all their resources or die.
@thorinbane11 ай бұрын
That does in some cases allow great moments like Joe and Skids moment in 23. However that doesn't have to be between kicking down doors, but can be actual downtime that the GM makes time for. A lot of adventure paths don't allow for those moments because pushing to the next fight is at the core of Pathfinder. Though strength of thousands is not at all like that.Good AP for quality RP. In Toronto head south to Oakville and if KB sushi is still there it was amazing 10 years back.

Wild that Troy kept using "they" and "it" (which, sidenote, is maybe not ideal but whatever, inhuman monster [if sentient being with identity] it's fine enough) here and Joe *still,* however many episodes later, hasn't picked up on... Kaneepo's not a "he"... and then Troy starts doing it too, a bit, before changing back but not actually *correcting* himself. I wonder if the group will find themselves still going down the self-imposed red herring route of the farmer lady talking about "they" and thinking that's multiple people in coming episodes. It's... kinda getting to the point of frustration for me. You... you can just correct it. You have before with femme characters who get assumed to be masc because of how Troy voices them. So why not here? You can just do a quick, "Sorry, *they."* It's not a spoiler, we already know they have agency and are sentient, clearly. So why do they not get the same treatment? To predict any potential chuddy responses: no i'm not offended on behalf of a fictional character (hell, i'm not offended; i'm...tired). Obviously they're not hurt by it. But it's a direct illustration of what i get to deal with every needling day. And that... isn't fun. I get *plenty* of that in my day-to-day life. I do *not* have a thin skin about it; we truly can't, or we'd... be dead. But i feel... just a tiny bit less-than; a tiny bit othered; every time someone assumes "they" must mean plural somehow. Every time the "default" identity is assumed to be "he". So, *especially* after the fact, you can just... correct that. It's real easy. It's one interjection, rather than constantly (more or less) subtly using the right words while others don't. And people... feel worse. Also, mitigating factor, to be fair: the -o suffix, among English-speakers, especially Americans, who are more just used to Romance names, really does make it tough. It's messed me up a few times when reading and thinking about the book. Errors are fine. No one minds those. We just... want a base amount of effort and respect. I kinda wish they'd named them something else. I dunno. Kaneepay. Mm. Delicious. That makes it harder, but that's fine. No one's perfect; no one's expecting perfection. Just... correct it. Please. Please? I'm actually *begging. PLEASE?*

Hey, thanks for saying this. The Naish is pretty awesome people but despite that you might get some "annoyed backlash/defensiveness" on the internet [gasp] but since happenstance brought me to your comment shortly after its posting and before any other comments, just wanted to reinforce you. I had noticed Troy using the proper they pronoun and have appreciated his conscious efforts in this campaign and a couple other examples as well. We all know Joe is just not picking up on it because he is stupid and needs every detail of a game spoonfed to him (/sarc), but I absolutely agree a simple correction is due, ex "actually, I think I've misspoke referring to Keneepo as a 'he' before myself, but your character would know from your previous Recall Knowledge check that Keneepo is actually a non-binary gender, I have been trying to remember to refer to them with they/them pronouns. That was purposeful in referring to Keneepo individually, I wasn't speaking in plural sense at those times."
@thatJoshieJosh11 ай бұрын
Ah, I remember: Matthew played a non-binary character in the Paranoia game and the whole group was real solid on remembering to use they/them. I'm sure Gatewalkers being a bigger production and the character not being a PC makes it a little more difficult to remember or to think of correcting, but nonetheless I have been impressed by the GCP crew's attentiveness in general.
@origami_dream11 ай бұрын
@@thatJoshieJosh Thank you for saying that back. Nice to see it instead of said annoyed defensiveness at daring to criticize a thing. Yes, i appreciate Troy's efforts. He's done great, i think, and i don't think anyone's being a jerk or anything, here, to be fully clear if it wasn't already. Joe's... a bit innocently oblivious here, is the absolute worst i'd say or think. And that's fully understandable given the... lack of correction thing. I really do appreciate this show and think they're lovely people. I agree, i think that lil Recall Knowledge bit would be an excellent way to do it. Not that i expect it'll really matter since this is backdated, but yeah. I don't even remember if Troy had gone 'he' early on; it only occurred to me when the 'they must mean plural' thing happened and it made me read the AP out of curiosity, for that and the fod talk about what all Troy was doing with that bit of the adventure. But yeah, totally fine to get it wrong. Just... needs a quick correction is all; a not just letting it stand. Super quick and easy. I'll have to check out that Paranoia game next. I've been slowly getting through the backlog of other campaigns now i'm caught up on this one.
