the stage 2 computer targets 13.7psi boost vs 12 and at a lower RPM as well (s2 11psi to 3000rpm and then 13.7... stock, 8psi to 3500 and then ramps to 12 at 5000). depending on how long it was from the battery being disconnected to when the dyno runs were performed can effect boost (autotune boost adaptives) , as well as vacuum line leaks. The stage 2 is programmed a little leaner from 5psi on up as well and has 2 more degrees of timing. the stage 2 also allows for 2.8 sec of overboost rather than .25 sec before shutdown. and you would know when it hits shutdown... it shuts off power to the coil, injectors and fuel pump. its violent.

Correct, hence why everyone just used a boost controller with a vacuum hose from the waste gate actuator to a vacuum source and skipped the factory solenoids. That was one of the first things I did on many turbo dodge cars besides replace the fuel lines from the rail to the firewall and new motor mounts and those stretchy joint CV axles from Napa worked great

Now, drop the exhaust at the turbo, and Dyno again :) I'm with the suggestion of a manual boost controller also, to add consistency to the tests. Reference the boost controller from the intake/throttle body, rather than the compressor housing for just a little more:)

My Dad worked at Chrysler HQ in Auburn Hills. He was able to get me an experimental brain for my 86 Shelby. I was warned it would eat my trans. At 3k when the boost kicks in it would bury my guage (15psi) untill the turbo wound up then it would back down to 12psi. Most of my fun was from a rolling start. Even then it did tear up the trans. I could keep up with the 5.0 mustangs!

Dodge dealer here : the reason the " Stage 2 " computer is pulling boost is because , The car starts shortening the fuel pulses after a certain pound of boost . Get a "Fuel Cut Defencer" and a good intercooler and you will make sooo much power with the stock block that your transaxle will now be the weak link. I had a stock GLH-S & had Reeves Callaway make & give me an intercooler for it . I made a boost adjuster , put on a Fuel Cut Defencer , plumbed the intake into the cowl for cooler air , Flowmaster cat-back and the thing was Soo fast I was grenading gears out of the transaxle 💣 It would smoke the tires up to 60+ m.p.h. I had to put 4 -"R"Spec. tires on it 😎

I'm not the biggest fan of the stock pcm controlling boost, I put aftermarket boost controllers on all of my turbo dodges, but the stock does a decent job. The computer has to "learn" how to control the boost, so if you just straight swapped the "stage 2" pcm in there, without it relearning the boost curve, then that could be the cause of the boost spike on the stage 2 computer.

I was going to guess not enough flow on the wastegate, that used to be one of the original modifications from Mitsubishis even on the small turbos, porting out where the wastegate flows right through the cast o2 outlet pipe to the downpipe, and that became even more important if you had additional exhaust flow because it could creep

Check the vacuum system. You have to have all the right restrictors and T's in the right places and the hoses oriented correctly on the solenoids. Depending on whether you kept the stock solenoids or it has later ones in it can mess with how well it controls the boost. My bet is there's something amiss giving the rising boost curve. You are not hitting boost cut. As Brian pointed out below, you'd know it if you were. It shuts off the ignition and fuel and it bucks around real bad. Not a fun time. On the S2 computer and the falling boost, my bet is that you are seeing the restriction of the stock exhaust. I actually expected a higher torque number, and sooner in the rpm range, which also makes me thing there's something wrong with the vacuum system. Of course none of my own modified turbo MOPARs have the stock vacuum system on them anymore...I simplify them down to about 5 and run a manual boost controller. When that turbo hits...it hits HARD! LOL 291ftlb at the wheels on 22psi at something like 3000rpm on an otherwise stock engine 2.2 TII (it does have all the supporting mods). It is a spike, but it still holds it pretty well making over 220whp for over a 2000+rpm range.

@bcbloc02 Жыл бұрын
@@richardholdener1727I bet if you made steady state load pulls at 2500 rpm the stage 2 with the extra timing would make more power than the stock. But on an accelerating load the advanced timing causes lower egts and thus turbo lag which shows up as lower power versus the stock tune. On my truck stock timing is 12 deg but I can advance it to 17 with a switch. It drives and spools way better with the lower timing and makes more torque at a lower rpm even though it drops 50hp closer to peak power versus the advanced timing. The idle and cruising egts are 200deg less with the advanced timing and that causes lag

(My old Daytona I could get low 2.0's, as it seemed easier to launch/liked a bit of wheel spin). I do think I suffer from boost creep w/ the VNT, with my boost gauge being more or less pegged. (past 15pis) ot sure if it helps as the turbo is pretty small, so unsure if it exceeds it's adiabatic efficiency and hurts overall performance, or it's fine and I'm just overthinking it 🙃

@@richardholdener1727 Just letting you know whats going on if you have no control over it. I dont mind Ad's, i know you need to make money off of them, but to just start your 13 minute video and get hit with an Ad right out of the gate is a bit frustrating to the viewer. I can understand having it halfway or what have you but after only watching 10% of the way....just turns me off from watching the rest of it.

@@richardholdener1727 hey Richard random question but I was wondering if you ever had any experience on turbocharging a Toyota 4-cylinder? Me and a couple guys that I met online turbocharged or 2zrfe engines and one of them is putting out 320 wheel horsepower on about 15 pounds of boost and it's been holding up pretty great All-Star game turtles just upgraded fuel pump and fuel return system the turbo kit and he's had zero issues

I'm sitting here watching and all I keep thinking is I would bet if you put in a cut out and bypassed the cat and muffler you could probably pickup 50 60 hoarse easy 🤔

50-60 hp would not likely happen without a lot more boost (10 hp per psi roughly), but I think we would see some (that test is planned)

Legend has it that bypassing the cat/exhaust on a stock 2.2 is around 25hp. Cat was supposed to be worth 15ish

Great car...love it!! Kind of surprised you had to grab 4th...I would run through the traps in 3rd when running 15's. Only at the end when I was getting at around high 13's @ 103 mph in my Shelby Z did I have to start grabbing 4th. One thing's for certain...makes me want to get my GLH's body cleaned up - straightened - and painted. Had Turbo Dodge Trans Shop rebuild the transaxle with a TU LSD, so need to stop stalling and either drive the car and pull the engine this fall...or just say the heck with it and pull it now. If memory serves, I got a little bump in boost when I un-restricted the exhaust, had a CAT, but it was a high flow Walker piece. Forgive me, but don't recall if you were running stock exhaust on the rest of it??
