How come the outer (valence) shell of the Si, that is 3S^23P^2, has become in this explanation 3S^13P^3 ? (The use of the ^ sign is just in order to replace the superscript, which I can’t do otherwise in this key board)

I was confused about why there are both bonding and antibonding orbitals in each Si - Si bond. I found a great explanation in MIT OpenCourseWare - for anyone who's interested: kzbin.info/www/bejne/op3EkmCfer53gqs (Skip to 9:02 for the beginning of the lecture).
