Continued...So Plisetskaya's is more than a ballet, it's an evidence of the history, collective anger and protest of people abused and opressed by the establishment. With that said, Kondaurova's Phrygia has its own beauty, slow building of the character.At first it's a personal joy of simple woman, going into the fear and sorrow when she notices the possibility of losing her husband, then comes emotional outburst, finally she accepts the onus of general's wife. Surely she makes me cry.

Yes, Plisetskaya's Phrygia in this adagio was and is sublime. I can't ever think anyone might surpass her volcanic performance, because she experienced through her life how it's at. Her family suffered under Stalin purges. Her father was excecuted as a remote aquaintance of Trotsky, her mother was sent to a labor camp. She knew too well how to send away the people never to come back. And as a Jewish she had to fight for her right and freedom even in the peak of her carrier. Continue
