I LOVE your poem. I use to hate getting my hair wet. I remember being in middle, and high school, and seeing the black girls with softer hair textures get caught in the rain, and how it just made their hair more beautiful, but I was stuck with this coarse textured hair that I had to relax. 😑 Now that I've embraced not only my texture, but my locs as well...I LOVE water. I never mind getting my hair wet. I love to wash my hair, I don't mind the rain, and I love to mist water in my hair with my spray bottle daily. I think it's so beautiful how God was able to change my perspective, and how he helped me realize my hair was always just as beautiful as those other girls. I just had to embrace that fact. 😊

Until your poem I didn't realize my hesitation with water. I'm on my 2nd set of locs (after 12 years and many mistakes with the first set, but no regrets) and they are almost 4 months old. I've washed them since week 2 so that's not my issue. But we're travelling and A LOT of time will be spent in the water - that's my hesitation. But your poem!😍 I have a peace about it now. I created a loc diary for my locs back when I first started haven't been brave enough to share it yet. I only use oils in my hair like coconut, tea tree oil and peppermint. Peppermint oil works really well if you start experiencing any itchy dry scalp. -K

Love the water only retwist! I used foam wrap on mine and loved it. Like you, I didn't want gel down super neat but I also want them together. I'm gonna have to try water only. Maybe in the winter. Loving your hair! So exited and glad I have another loc gal who started with coils on long hair like me.

I've been binge watching your videos for about 3 days now and finally started my loc journey TODAY. I've been wanting to do it for a while now and just recently have been feeling something like a spiritual awakening, so the timing of finding your channel is no mistake. When you said, "I will allow my roots to give birth to branches like a tree firmly standing..." it hit me in my soul. I wear my hair in twists or cornrows and under wigs 90% of the time and I'm ready to reveal these roots and let them grow! I'm sorry this was so long but I really wanted to thank you! Congratulations🙏🏾 I went through the same thing, but I didn’t write a poem🥰 I lasted three weeks, I couldn’t take it any longer. It felt so good to wash it... I just let it air dry fir about 15 mins then I retwisted it because it’s to silky to twist while it’s soak and wet... I’m going to try the water only retwist as well... I don’t like a lot of product either...

I actually plan on starting my own journey in a couple months. second, I wanted to tell you that there are loc creams that keep your hair lightweight and durable without the build-up. Knatty Dread is a brand that many people trust, I haven't been out searching for other brands. but there are conditioning options out there made for locs, just wanted to throw that out there.

I strictly only use essential oils that are antimicrobial and hair growth stimulants. I use (all in 2 spray small spray bottles) ylang ylang, peppermint oil, tea tree oil, avocado oil, castor oil, and lavender oil. I squeeze a little in 2 spray bottles, one for my face and facial hair, and the other for my locs and use a scalp massager...I've been semi freeforming since last October. Have a little fro and all. Hair is never thirsty...hair is strong and I love it.

So I’ve been following you since the first loc journey and have always loved your videos (whether you were loc’d or a loose natural) and am just now seeing that you’re loc’d again. I’m a month and two weeks in I got a little budding in some in the front ones I tried getting dreads last summer but I was still in school and I started in August so I took them out cause it’s hard having locs while having to go to school but I like this sets I got now I’m in senior year now hopefully I can stay patient
