So I bought one of the rectangular $8 units from ebay and the biggest issue I found with it is that the phone has to be 100% perfectly on the center of the unit. This is pretty annoying when sometimes the phone will not detect the charger requiring you have to fine tune its position for a few seconds and its even more annoying in the middle of the night when the phone wakes up and lights up the room. I've found that the flat magnets inside these units are very weak, so one of the things I tried was to crack one open then add an 'advertisement' credit-card size magnet behind it to increase its strength. This actually worked for me and now I don't have to play with it when I set it down on the pad. I'll bet increasing the copper coiling could also extend the range a bit, but I realize you don't want too strong of a signal push. Not only do you run the risk of too much heat but also too strong of a magnet can damage the phone itself.

Word of warning to those that buy: I've had mine for a month or two and last week when I woke up I noticed the phone and charger were considerably warmer than 'normal' and my phone was only on around 80% (after an entire night) only later to see that even when my phone wasn't on the charger, the charger 'thought' my phone was there. I know this because when it's not in use, the light is red but when a phone is charging, the light is blue. The light on mine remained blue even when the phone wasn't there (thus generating all that extra heat). A quick unplug sorted this but be careful with these cheap chargers, there's a reason some others are a lot more expensive, you get what you pay for. (I have two of these, problem only occurred on one as of today). Stay safe guys!

budget nerd question to you. I have a prepaid LG Verizon phone and wanted to know if it will work with this device? I have received my device yesterday without the charger and I fully charged it to the best of my knowledge because it had a constant red light but once I set my phone on the unit I'm not seeing it charge at all. Does the wireless charger have to stay plugged up and if so why is it called Wireless?
@BudgetNerd6 жыл бұрын
The phone has to support wireless charging. Not every phone will work. It'ss a pretty good selling point for manufacturers, so if your phone does support it, chances are it will say in the manual, or online. Just Google your phone model and qi or wireless charging and you can find that out. If your phone does support it, then your phone has to sit on the charging pad to charge. Try adjusting its spot on the pad to get it to charge (if it supports wireless charging, that is). The phone does not have to be plugged in, if it supports wireless charging, just place it on the charging surface.

I could see where it may make your target audience feel likewise about the subject. Will we also get to see a video comparing these low cost entry level chargers to more costly tech enthusiast quality wireless chargers? Again glad to have stumbled on this video XD.

I bought 1 of these from wish, which I believe the 1 in your video came from the same place as the packaging was identical but seems like I'm always seeing stuff with quite a higher price tag then find it on wish for free w/small shipping fee or alot cheaper. I've charged this thing several times with no luck at least the light stays red so assuming it's not charging. I seen another video that shows another gadget called a receiver that you plug into your phone then lay it on the device. Is that something you have to have & will it even work with an Lg K8?
@BudgetNerd6 жыл бұрын
I can't see anything anywhere that says the LG k8 supports wireless charging, but yes, you can get one of those thin pads that plugs into the battery port to add the functionality.

I was worried about it getting a bit warm so I placed the Qi receiver between the phone and it's rubber case rather than directly between the battery and the case cover. The second cheap charger I got was rated for 1 Amp output rather than 700mA. And there was almost no difference in charge time between it and standard wired charger. Just got to make sure to use a 1.5 Amp power source it needs, USB ports on my PC don't provide that much, I just use a high powered hub designed for charging.

@ryanwakebradtelle86825 жыл бұрын
You should make sure that the charger used is above 1.5 amps recommended 2, and to make sure that it's qi charger compatible. If it's not it will just default to standard charging, it is unlikely that the wireless charger to take advantage, but it says it can so it's possible. Not that it matters but you should look into a wireless charging jacket, you can make your own. Just get a power bank a jacket, a sewing kit and a sharp knife. Run the cable around the back of the jacket, and stitch in zipper inside the jacket, high strength Velcro is also an option. This is for a hidden chamber inside the pocket you have to Wireless charger in, you can do the same thing with the battery Bank. Then make a second pouch for your phone directly across from the wireless charger. I'm sure most of the steps were obvious but if you've never thought about doing this I thought if you could read this faster than it would take you to imagine it.

You could just say it's like a magnet and electromagnet, you see cables deliver electricity the same way magnets do. But a coil I can stimulate electrons movement over a distance, but normal cables are limited to direct contact. Wireless chargers stimulate electrons over a short distance to thin coil, in your phone. Think of the coil like a charging cable, because of the shape of the material you can manipulate the property of the electrons. Wireless chargers over the distance of the average room is already in development, and prototypes will soon be deployed in Disney World. It doesn't cost any electricity because the only electrons lost in the equation are electrons that go to charge your device or large piece of some metals in the shape and position necessary to charge your device. 99% of extra electrons will be returned to the charger
@ryanwakebradtelle86825 жыл бұрын
I know you understand how wireless charging works, but your description too low level in my opinion. This is just an example, it's how my high school teacher explained it to me. let's not everyone is the greatest at explain high-level topics, especially in Tech a lot of times explanations are a bit lackluster.

Thanks for the comment, but you have to keep in mind, the video wasn't really about how it works, it was about the charger. I'm very aware of how electromagnetic induction works, in fact it fascinates me, but didn't want to get too deep with it in this video. That wasn't the point of the video.

@ 3:00 you say it charges at 1500mA pointing at the spec listing. The spec doesn't say that it charges at that rate, that is the current used by the charger but after losses the actual charge rate it delivers is less than that. Anyway techy stuff was questionable- you use an ammeter to measure the current consumed not based on a [chinese] manufacturers specs- general conclusions possibly ok though.
