If I did, it would only be a software firewall within Windows.

So we have had this for a little while, and I'm trying to figure out how to set it up again after switching internet providers. We have 1gb service, but the wifi from the provider seems to be slow. I ran an ethernet cable back down and through the basement to the back of the house to the master bedroom. This is where the tp link router will be located. I'm pretty sure originally we could go from room to room and have access with no issues. But now we have to select the router from our devices as we change rooms. Tv's are hardwired, but smartphones, tablets, and laptops are not. How should I set this up so we don't have to change it when we switch rooms?

my issue with all this Ethernet stuff is why so many ports and isn't clear on what these these cables can be used for when connected to a patch panel and hard to tell where the ports are active
@JJFlores197
@JJFlores197 3 күн бұрын
When you have a well organized and planned out network, you can identify what the cables are for quickly. That's why you want to use short patch cables between the panel and switch. Otherwise if you have really long cables it becomes a mess trying to figure out which cable goes where.

Need advice please 🙏 Iv no one to ask Id found a friend has set up a dynamic DNS on my router without my knowledge Is it the same as a vpn Im trying to learn what it means Can it cause any threat to my internet security I feel they should have asked permission first Should I be concerned as the are adament they want remote access to my network and pc too Does the dynamic DNS give them remote access to my router???
@BudgetNerd
@BudgetNerd Ай бұрын
Dynamic DNS just lets you access your router outside of your network, by the same name all the time, even if your router's IP address changes. It is generally setup for remote access purposes, but may have others. If you're concerned, youcould just turn it off or disable it, or maybe factory reset the router if you are unsure.

is this not somekind in someway somekind of overkill for some elements and other elements are like locked to your use, meanwhile others are kinda overkill for the place you put those things? i was expecting more wifi range of connection while limiting the ethernet and ip management for security reasons .-.

Thanks for the Video! That explained a lot about it and I will start using wireguard. I just don't quite understand how it keeps working if your routers IP address changes (like after the standard 24h dicsonnect and new IP assignment from the ISP)?

Total answers my questions. I got a office space to rent to the right client. I got 24 cat6 cable in the walls. Some terminate in two or one port wall plates. The switch ends I am going to use your recommended patch panel plate. Then the client it person can do their thing. Might save me a expensive male end tool and plugs.
