You said in the last video I watched, that a trail horse has to be trained and it takes a long time - or about those words. We were just ignorant, I think, because we went out all the time - through the woods, up steep inclines with no trail, down muddy slides, into the lake and ponds to swim, over logs and over cross-county jumps. The children, pony clubbers, practiced dressage and jump courses too. Once I trucked my girls and the neighbor girl about 16 miles (conservatively) away and they rode their horses home - through fields and woods, dirt roads and highways. My daughter and I took two of our ponies to an organized, competitive trail ride. She rode our 11.3hh Welsh and I rode our 13.2hh grade pony. We had a fun time and we both won prizes, she for the smallest pony. She was about 9 at the time.

What I meant by that is that it’s good to take your horse out and expose them. It takes a long time to develop a good trail horse that’s safe for all levels of riders. Anyone who can ride well can take out a horse and do these things, but developing a safe, good trail horse for novice riders can take time.
