Is it really worth doing on modern air conditioners that are expected to have a limited lifespan? One thing that bugs me is that a hole in the sheet metal for water drainage could cause a weak point that accelerates rust formation and deterioration of the condensation pan. The evaporator also gets wet and rust does form on the supports.

@@robertgaines-tulsa modern units? Probably not. You have to treat the exposed metal with rustoleum paint. But also, they dont stay wet long enough to rust. Both these units are 50 years old and still nearly rust free
