I bought two pair of these new, 47 years ago, when I was stationed overseas in the U.S. military. They are still in use almost daily. I had to replace all the crossover pots and I fried one midrange in all those years. They still sound terrific.

You can put a reverse pitch fan blade on the condenser to increase the cooling power of the air conditioner by drawing air thru the condenser coil

I have this exact model and decided to search it online. I found the ebay listing for 60 bucks and was like man, that guy is lucky. Then the next search, I find the video if the guy that bought it from the ebay listing I just watched lmao. I found mine in an old doctors office when we were remodeling back in 2010. I have had it for 15 years and it runs like a champ. Nothing beats old school!

Is that a Lafayette Criterion 50A speaker? (had a set of them years ago) Looking forward to seeing the '56 Fedders project; would like to see another shot of the electrical diagram. (was trying to figure out the interconnection of the start relay and the rest of the system, and comparing it with the layouts for the GE Mugwamp and Hi Thinline systems)

Quite a project, Russ, with a 3-man team! Looking at my 1955 Tecumseh catalog: you will probably find that the model number of the compressor is B1P16. Twin cylinder, 1HP, 230Volt. It is designed for R-22, and requires 55 ounces of oil. Displacement is 3.59 cubic inches, and it weighs 70 lbs. Hey, maybe you could have an air conditioner in your kitchen: that guy in the movie "The Seven Year Itch" (1955) had an EQK in his kitchen!

@@johncantwell8216 all joking aside, thats where it may go. I have an eqk im my living room. Does the kitchen but it would be nice to have a little extra cooling power for when the oven and stove is on. That, and itll look cool as hell in there.

Great video! Looks like they forgot to back off on the hold-down nuts (to prevent excessive compressor movement during shipping) to let the compressor ride free on its spring mounts. I once had an 11400 BTU Philco with a Tecumseh B, and it had a label with instructions to do that loosening at the time of installation.

@akshonclip

AC induction motors don’t care how they are wired. If it’s an old motor, You may want to do a resistance check between each wire and the case to make sure it isn’t shorted.

This thing was on my eBay watch list for a while. Glad it went to someone that'll take care of it. I was going to buy it but I knew it was one of those things that I would most likely put in a box and never touch again like my 60's GE fridge condenser fan. Very cool.

The RPM isn't listed as the motor can run on both 50 and 60 Hz. Sounds like it needs new thrust washers from the knocking sound the motor is making. I would get a VFD so you can very the Hz going into the motor to control the speed of the fan. Can't want to see you refurbish this! 🙂

I just got one of these that a friend saved from the dumpster… have you ever had to replace the belts in the cd or cassette deck? The cd track seems to be one spot off and I can’t seem to find any manuals online
@TheAirConditionerGuy
@TheAirConditionerGuy 2 ай бұрын
@@artick there are 2 belts on the CD changer and a gear for the sled that usually go bad. The belts are easy because speed dont matter so any size thatll fit will work.but the gear usually i turn it upside down and put it on just enough to contact the other gear, unless you can find a replacement. The belts for cassette decks are way more complicated if its a dual deck with one motor. You can try multiple belt kits but ive never had any luck. Ive never found a correct kit on ebay either and none of my service manuals had the belt size in it. If its a single deck or a dual deck with 2 motors its easy, get belts that fit and do a speed adjustment on it using a test tape, or your ears if you are good with that.
