It’s amazing to me to see a farm that can run that much big equipment. The price of those combines amazes me but their capacity is also. I haven’t farmed since 1980 had to find a different carrier but really would like to know how many hrs they put on a machine in a cropping year can’t imagine it being less than 2000 but should be closer to 3
@curtmyers6273

This farmer Mike is friends with and records them alot and they have I believe 11000 acres of corn. They had 7 machines last year and looks like they are now using 5. 5 machines is around 2000 acres per machine so I'm going to guess maybe 1000hrs per machine. That's why Billy trades probably trades every year. I maybe off but I doubt I'm too far off. Our operation will put on about 250hrs on our 690 over 3000 acres we also use a 9870 on beans. We don't use that one on corn unless we need to.

That is impressive. How big was the canola field. It is often difficult to film all of this farms combines in corn because they sit up in the big field and as they harvest smaller field they break into a group of two or three and run at different farms.

@@bigtractorpower here's the story behind the combines. It was on 1200 acres of rolling property of which a third of it was either cleared of brush in early 2023 or disked down from a pasture/hayfield. It was intreagaging to see those combines with 50 foot cutting heads working some pretty steep slopes. The approximate acres for this operation amounts to 45 000. It was quite a sight to see everything work together

The farm uses 4 Kinze 1321 grain carts with John Deere 9R 440 tractors. They have 15 semi trucks. The corn feeds into a 4 million bushel grain bin system. @John-nc4bl
@John-nc4bl 10 ай бұрын
It depends on the row spacing of the corn. Calmer have had a 32 row cornhead out for several years now for narrow row corn. It is 40 feet wide, so the same width as 40 foot small grain heads. There are KZbin videos about it. Thake a look at the Mike Less video on KZbin of the 62 foot GTS Brazilian head cutting beans on a Fendt ideal 10 combine. It is very impressive and has a massive unloading auger.@@SamMaass-s5h
@bigtractorpower
@bigtractorpower 10 ай бұрын
I think we will eventually see 24 row 30 inch corn heads. A head that size means allot of weight and it needs to able to follow the contours of fields. This 2,800 acre field has some decent slopes in it and lots of tile drain mounds. The drone view of the combines is one long upward grade. At the end of the video you see four of the X9s working on the back side of the forks on a good sized slope. The 12 rows follow the ground well. A 24 row will need allot of tilt.

Yeah, 775 hp versus the JDs' 690hp. Think the new CR might actually be in the next output category, even above the JDs in this video, since the class is dictated by the horsepower output of the combine. No prices for it yet, but guessing it's gonna be at least 3/4 $Million, without a header. I dare say Case will be next to jump on the Class 11 bandwagon, since both they and New Holland have the same Parent Company in CNH Industrial.

My main concern is the final end product. Will the ethanol produced from this corn be gently and reverently placed into new charred white oak barrels for years of miraculous and consciousness altering aging, or will it wantonly be mixed with petroleum distillates, only to be quickly combusted while spewing the previously, naturally sequestered carbon back into the atmosphere????????????? This being Kentucky, I'm hoping for, and expecting the former vs the latter. A great corn harvest deserves a life of at least twelve years.

There is a great misconception on the cost of food. Some where between the farmer and the bravery store shelf there is a mark up but it’s not at the farm level. A bushel of corn is currently selling for $4.76 when the farner delivers. It costs the farmer about $1.50 bu. To raise the corn with seed cost, fuel, labor, equipment cost. More if there is land rent. A bushel of corn sold for $4.76 will make 45 boxes of corn flakes. The cost of a 12 oz box of Corn Flakes is $6.99. The Miller and the super market have a big mark up. The farmers return is set by the market price determined by trading on an exchange that they have no control over.

So, Billy was a little hard to understand- is he saying this combine was more fuel efficient or less? I always like hearing his thoughts on all these machines and wanted to make sure I heard him right. This is their first season with these X9's too isn't it?

They use less fuel then the s series. Some of it has to do with the new engine but they run a little slower engine rpm aswell.

Yes he is saying the X9 is more fuel efficient. The threshing area run the crop through better where the S790 gets really full and has to work harder to thresh.

Did you find out how many bushels/hour those five combines can harvest?
@bigtractorpower
@bigtractorpower 10 ай бұрын
The X9 1100 can harvest up to 7,200 bu an hour with a 16 row head. These X9s with 12 rows were running about 5,500 bu an hour in 250 bu corn. The big hang up while I was there was they were opening up a section of the fields head lands. The opening shot where the combines unload along the drive was an hour wait as the 5 combines went all the way around.

I am lying on my back with shock when I heard the price and then the size of the field most farms in Europe are not that size-fantastic sight.

2800 acre fields are an anomaly here in the states too.

This farm raises 12,000 acres of corn. It is helpful to have a big block in one place. It takes about 4.5 to 5 days to harvest the field.

These 2 combines require a large “supply chain” to remove this vast quantity of product in a timely manner to keep the combines rolling....
