One of the worst fusterclucks I've seen, which makes this an excellent training video despite how my stomach is tied in knots. Thank you.

Hope they just took him and custody till he cooled down then let the cuffs off. Feel horrible for the man.

At some point you have to have some common sense. It's a cat, not worth getting arrested over.
@ffjsb6 жыл бұрын
Yes reba, they ARE JUST CATS. Him trying to run inside causes firefighters to be distracted from their assignments, and he'd just end up being a casualty, so you'd have a dead or injured guy PLUS dead cats. The firefighters are trained and equipped to go in, he isn't. And it only takes one good whiff of superheated air to fry your airway and lungs, a horrible way to die. Sorry that cats are the only things that like a person like you...

Reba I'll will back the rest of these guys up on this 100%. I have 28 years of fighting fires. I've rescued my share of cats, dogs, rabbits, even snakes, and lizards and probably some animals I can't even remember. I've also found my share of dead ones under some burned up remains of a home. Pets are part of the family and are important and any decent firefighter will make an effort to save that animal. HOWEVER , a human life cannot be replaced! You can't drive to the pet store and buy a new husband or wife or son or daughter. The pet owners has every right to be upset. They lost something precious. It may be a bit extreme to say if they walk in they'll die right away. Probably unlikely at that point in the fire. But how about a charred beam with exposed nails striking him in the head as he rushes through the door? how about a broken leg from falling into an unseen hole in the floor covered by debris? How about getting struck in the face from a hose stream? It will cause irreparable eye or ear damage. There's a lot more hidden dangers than the smoke and flames the public sees from outside. Whether people want to believe it or not, the FD overrules EVERYONE until the fire is declared under control and the incident commander releases the scene, meaning the property, the house, and all of the belongings in it to the police department. Until that happens the homeowners are not permitted to be there and can be arrested for interfering with the performance of a public official. I've seen it happen and I've order it to happen on occasion. So despite what you may think, the homeowners are in the wrong. If they aren't home at the time of the fire, the firefighters probably have no idea that pets are even in the home.

I hope you didn't think I was done with you yet Reba. Far from it! I didn't get to the part of wishing for someone to be trapped in a burning building. Let me ask you this, have you ever been burned? Not a bad sunburn, and no not touching a hot birthday candle. I mean BURNED. Continuous flame exposure to the bare skin? Have seen anyone that's been burned? I have you stood next to someone who has their skin hanging from their arms, face, and legs while you ask if there is anyone still in the house?are there any PETS in the house? If so where should we look. I encourage you to volunteer your time at the nearest burn center. They would gladly accept the help with peeling dead skin from the burn patients while they scream at you for basically skinning them alive and beg you for more pain killers. Once you have done that for a few years come back and let us know how it went. Maybe you'll think about your comments a little different.

There was no reason at all, for this fire to go as long as it did. I believe the Firefightershere were very slow in any actions.

mango johnson Really? Were you there? Do you know whether or not they had water problems? You do realize that is an old building and probably balloon frame construction which males it almost impossible to find the fire.

Oh here go the "we're you there" digs! So what if I was standing across the street? I'd see the same thing we just watched and then I could fire off about how I was there. Honestly I thought this WAS a pretty good job by the FD's. Right up until the point they pulled everyone out. They seemed to be doing just fine. Hand line was moving so that's a good sign. If it's moving then it's heading toward the fire. The roof team was opening up. Maybe not quite where they should have but at least they were getting some holes in. I was thinking wow, the smokes really chugging, the fires going good somewhere and finally a video where the Chiefs are actually letting the firefighters fight the fire. Not pulling them out. And when it appears they were really getting the upper hand.......ah never mind guys, you did bust your asses and did a great job but eh, write this one off. Go stand over there and freeze for a while. Of course there were mistake. We all make them. None of our departments can put up a perfect fire ground video. And even if we could someone would inevitably play it over and over until they could find that one little thing to post and say xyz and blah blah blah. If you depend on tankers or a water supply then you WILL have water supply issues. There's no getting around it, even more so during cold winter months. Fires in ballon frame buildings are NOT impossible to find. Get in, and open the walls until you find it. Get on top and open the roof to draw it up and out. They seemed to be doing all of those thing. The roof was even opened up nicely and venting. Of course there were mistakes but it seems to me these guys had it. I don't see anything glaring that would cause the evacuation of the building.

@@ritirons2726 From the video it appears that you are correct in what you wrote about what was done. I have had enough experience in trying to control and extinguish fires in these old frame buildings in over 30 years of doing it. Plus, I was a builder and worked on them doing repairs, renovations, and additions. What people don't often understand about this type of construction is that ceilings and floors are supported on two sides by what are known as "ribbons". The floor and often the ceiling joists are supported by 1" x 3" boards mortised into the wall studs which run from the foundation to the eaves. These light boards can burn through much more quickly than the 2" x 4" studs and cause a sudden collapse of the floor along with the contents of an entire room. Because of the lack of any kind of fire stops, void spaces left from remodels over the years, and plaster wall surfaces, if the fire can't be stopped very quickly a collapse can come with no warning. Further, the cost of repair and unavailability of materials quickly makes fire damage a total loss. Fire officers, which I was for many years, are not going to risk lives once it's certain the structure will be torn down anyway and no chance of rescue remains viable.
