the part of the wedding ceremony where the father "gives away" the bride and then shakes hands with the groom, that moment gives me the icks. I guess that's right before her name changes from her father's to her new master's.

​@JenniferBirdPhD it's why I rewrote what the officiant said, and my name is still my Maiden name, by my choice. My daughter just got engaged and threw a fit when her fiance wanted to ask for her father for her hand. She said 1) I'm not my father's property to give away and 2) you gonna ask Mom too? I laughed and thought, I did good here. Also, I was not married when I had my daughter and she has my maiden name. Her father said, "why not my name" to which I replied, "Do you see a ring on this finger?"
