Good ol hang fire! Bahahahaha. That IS frustrating Colin! Happened to me at 18 yards this year on a one year old 11 pointer lol. So here's the thing when you clean your muzzleloader. The breach plug specifically. Cleaner will remain inside and cause that to happen! Either find a way to dry that out before hunting. Or the day of the hunt, at the truck, fire a cap off before loading it and that will dry it out... no hang fire. "thumbs up" "You'll get em next year" LMAO

Always gotta shoot one primer after cleaning your gun. Then load it. Every misfire I’ve had has been the first shot after cleaning.

I would be getting a better set up for my muzzloader on that last buck. Seems to be a recurring problem. That sucks. Bet there is some real motivation for next year. Maybe a new gun altogether, different powder. Friend of mine missed a big 10 pt using the ML primers in a savage ml 2. Always best to use the #2 shotgun primer. Zack, enjoy while ya can pal. Age will creep up on you.

Love your videos, seeing that buck with a under bite I killed a buck in 2009 that had a under bite and I was told it was from innerbreading but I never did any research on it. Great videos keep them coming I like the enthusiasm with you guys.

I see a lot of different brands of muzzleloaders but didn't see any quick loaders how do you all carry your reloads I use a muzz charger and quick and effective for second shots.great job wish I had your younger age again.

That bit about Colin missing was hilarious. Muzzleloader issues are frustrating. I use bore butter a lot but I’ve found it can clog your break plug hole. So now I’ll run patches till it’s dry, shine a light down the barrel to check and make sure the plug is clear then load. It’s a pain but well worth it.

Some muzzleloaders also have specific breach plugs for the blackthorn. I had to buy one from cva that was just for blackthorn. And 209 magnum primers.

Look into the veri-flame ignition system. It was specifically designed for blackhorn 209 by CVA.

Awesome way to wrap up the season guys! Colin, get some new primers and/or new powder! Also, don’t use any oil when you clean your muzzleloader. I also always shoot a primer through mine before I load it just to make sure everything is opened up in between and cleaned out.

Get Colin some better scope rings and CVA’s veri-flame ignition system. It’s by far the best commercial ignition system for blackhorn 209.

Blackhorn 209 is great powder, but it needs optimal ignition. Use hot 209 primers, and clean flashhole with torch cleaner after every use. I had a few misfires before I learned my lesson. Now it is very reliable. Good hunting!

Something I recently learned was that there are breach plugs with different size holes in them. The ones with smaller holes that usually come from the factory with muzzleloaders now is intended for pellets. If you plan to use loose powder of any kind, most brands sell a breach plug with a larger hole in it that will allow for better ignition and more complete burning of those loose powders.

So I believe the lesson Colin can learn from this is to keep the primer hole clean. I guarantee that's what led to the misfire. You guys should do a episode on muzzleloader cleaning. Or maybe just a short video on how important it is to clean the primer hole in the breach plug. If you don't keep that tiny hole cleared and clean the gun will have short hang fires. This happened to Colin twice now. The odds are pretty good that's the issue.

Poor Colin. If ya read this after cleaning fire 2 primers through it next time. Sometimes moisture can be stuck in the breach plug happened to me this year on thankfully my smaller buck and not my big buck.
