Now that is a deer camp! I love that you guys don't walk out of a nice cabin with $1,500.00 worth of hunting clothes on your back with custom long range "sniper rifles" slung over your shoulders. Instead you walk out of a rustic old trailer with surplus camo and the old trusty model 7400 Rems with the raised mounts. Classic American deer hunting at it's best. Thanks Jake, the THP crew is representative of 90 percent of the hunters in the US. Love it!

There's something about sleeping in an old rotten building in the middle of winter that's just comforting. lol When my grandfather took me hunting, the place we stayed on was about 400 acres and had a 700 sq ft house that'd been there since at least 1930, with its cast iron stove still in it. Funny thing was that even though it was as old if not older then my grandfather and his friends, it had modern electricity. The house had at least three fridges for just for deer. We got ran off bc the previous owner had either sold it to his kid or he'd passed away. And They wanted to up the lease by about $500 for each person. This place wasn't any kind of trophy management and was hunted for deer and turkey only. And not even turkey a whole lot. The only thing is that You could guarantee each year to get your buck and 2/3 does, and it was 2 hrs from Austin. I miss that place more then I really should.
@jaycopiskey

Its all about the camaraderie Jake! The hunting out of a camp, seeing friends and family you only see once a year, building close personal bonds through it, because that's what hunting does naturally. It should anyways, otherwise your not doing something right. The eating like Kings, drinking like Kings, and the card playing. The young, next generation youth, with virgin ears, soaking it all in and keeping the tradition going. It's all priceless and something I wouldn't trade for for anything . So one quick little story to finish up. About 10 years ago, during a WI deer season, I was posting on a hay marsh during a deer drive. The marsh was shaped like a #8 and big enough that you needed 2 people to cover it during the drive. About 5 minutes into it I had 2- 8 pointers bust out across the marsh dropping the lead buck with 1 shot and then shooting 3 times and finally dumping the second buck. I managed to get 1 bullet in during my reload(had 2 left, leaving me with 3) when another 8 pointer a little bigger, busted out on the same trail as the first two, literally jumping over the first dead buck before I got the gun up to take aim at a mature deer running full throttle from humans, dead deer, ringing ears from my first 4 shots echoing through the marsh just seconds before this, and now my bullets.........Shot 1 miss, shot 2 spined him, bringing him down and paralyzed, but not dead unfortunately. So I give him shot 3 in the boiler house to finish him off. All this you have read so far has been a total of maybe 20 seconds in real time. So I start to reload again, managing to get 2 shells in before a fork busts out on the same trail. I take aim again, (remember party hunting law. This was about filling tags, unimportant who shoots) first shot hit its mark. 4 deer all laying on the same trail spanning about 60 yards from the first, to the 4th. I have 1 bullet in the chamber and 1 left in my pocket. So I put the second bullet in the gun trying to catch my composure and breath, still full of adrenaline and disbelief as to what just happened when I was brought back to reality by 3 loud shots coming from the other end of the marsh. As I'm looking in that direction I see a 6 pointer doing mach 1, dodging bullet's and I realize he's not slowing down at all, and I'm going to get some more shooting from about 150 yards out or so. 2 bullets left, 2 shots fired, and not a hair. I ran out of bullets and we never got the 5th buck. I would have had time to keep shooting if I had more shells. I think I was feeling the fever a little to much at that point regardless. Craziest 40 seconds of my life for sure. I still catch playful shit to this day that anyone can shoot 4 deer on 1 drive. By missing the 5th, I'm just average......... Love you guys. Keep doing what your doing, it's the best out there hands down. Thank you for bringing me along. I feel like I know you guys personally. Stay safe.

What some of the commenters aren't understanding is that shooting twice doesn't mean the first one was some kind of haphazard pot shot. When on a small property and having the option of a follow up shot (or 3), how is putting them down asap somehow irresponsible?
@YoungTro14
@YoungTro14 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for this comment. I do think most of us understand it but it's head scratching at people who claim to be calling this "unethical" and "not good for educating youth's" likely don't understand actual ethics and have never been educated. If you can shoot 100x and it's still running, keep shooting. 1 shot 1 kill is great, but I've blown up a few hearts and deer still run 40 yards.
