People often ride their street bikes to a trackday event because Dave will be there. Such was the case with this Repsol replica 2011 Honda CBR1000RR. He did not participate in the trackday at all. Just rode to the event with some friends to get their street bikes set up by Dave.

When Dave showed him the chain and the guy asked "Is it too tight?" I shouted back at the screen, at the same time as Dave "Yes, it's too tight!" and proceeded to fall out of my chair. Seriously it scares me there are dudes on the road with 1000cc bikes that don't even know the basics about riding let alone maintenance.

There are many, many riders out there that don't know very much at all and I hope in time that with all the online resources I provide and people like yourself talking with others, that we can slowly decrease that uniformed number.

My days of trying to straighten out street riders who think skill is "how fast you have gone on the highway" or if you "outran the police" are over. It's more about a look an image for them. You can lead a human to knowledge but you can't make him think, I'm a track guy now better experience fewer jack asses. BTW You are a legend among track riders. Just in case you didn't know lol. Keep kicking ass DM.

Thanks for the message and kind words. Every day is another opportunity for me to save a life through all the online resources I provide and with riders like yourself who have conversations about my work, you are paying forward the information and message. Thank you for sharing your experiences and understanding with others.

Dave Moss Tuning I’m about to buy a new bike after selling my triumph. You have encouraged me to set the suspension up immediately. Are you doing remote tuning anymore?

stfu some people just wanna ride their bike, every biker shouldn't be an engineer too. Ok every proper biker knows that chain should jog around 2-3cm but some just keep their bike maintained within a reasonable time without having any crazy specific knowledge about mechanical stuff and they are Gucci.

When I got the tire they set it like that? Was the tire used? That thing looked like it was on its last leg and you could feed a family of 4 with the chicken strips on that tire. Dave do you do these quick set ups for free if so you need to charge at least a minimal fee. I know he won't know its the same bike on the ride home. Thanks for all your hard work I learn a little bit more every time I watch your videos even if its the same thing I've seen before.

I don't know the exact history of the tire hence it being a quick set up. Sometimes they are free, sometimes they are not.

I used to never mess with my suspension. But after getting some Dunlop q3+ put on it seemed way too stiff, a lot more vibration. Usually run 32 psi front and rear. Thank you for these videos! If you have time, what setup would you suggest for a 205 lbs rider. 2008 cbr1000rr. Cheers 🍻

@D_Fo

I replied and sent you my email. It seemed to disappear after sending it. Just an update. I realized my preload on my front was only 3 rotations in from full soft. I just reset it to 3 rotations out, out of 15 total. Sag and rebound are both set 1.5 turns out form hard. I really appreciate the information you give in these videos. I’m looking forward to taking a ride once this snow clears. Living in West Virginia I can’t ride year round unfortunately. I need my therapy! Lol

Thanks! Layered up and went for a ride today. I just don’t like riding on the roads when there is still salt present. They weren’t too bad today. New suspension settings felt a ton better! Might tweak them a bit more but overall I’m satisfied. Thanks for the knowledge! Ride safe 🙏

I've seen that way too many times. chain is too tight. if your chain is that tight it is actually restricting the movement of the rear shock and will cause pumping on acceleration. also it will increase chain, rear sprocket wear, and in extreme cases the output shaft of the transmission actually ovals out and causes big problems.
@catalystreactionsbw
@catalystreactionsbw 7 жыл бұрын
The worst part is that it mimics a shock rebound issue so you end up chasing a ghost. Preparation is everything.
@06blkgto1
@06blkgto1 7 жыл бұрын
preparation is always key as my suspension and best friend Kent Marquess would always say. when the middle of your tire is worn down to a slick like that it's only going to hurt turn in too. I had a chain that had a tight spot in it so like you said I thought it was the shock pumping one day I went through and noticed the chain was very loose, but just right at the tight spot. so needless to say that chain went bye bye. that's how they set the chain after they changed the tire I mean that's what probably 500 miles on that tire or more. we had so many people come to us with just simple problems that could have got them seriously hurt. clip ons loose, throttles completely turning on there own, chains way too tight, rocks holding the throttle open after a crash, you name it we have seen it.

so is 1.5 turns out a pretty standard place to start for Rebound and compression

For most Japanese motorcycles, it is a safe place to start from. You can go either direction and feel and effect to get what you need.

got me a cbr1000rr -08 with freakihsly low miles on it, used to ride snowcross so setting something up for comfort is new to me, any suggestions on where to start making the bike more fit for me? currently at 110kg with gear. found it pretty hard to take measurements by my self, going on eyesight on the sag and such.

1. Ergonomics for hand controls. 2. Set shock preload to 3 notches from maximum. 3. Set fork preload in the middle. 4. Mark fork bottom out 5. Ride and see how much travel you use via a cable tie on the right fork leg. All are single videos on this channel. Make sure tyre pressure is 38psi cold minimum.

Check will do. 5. Yeah, same "trick" for sledding to check bottom out. i have 38psi front (260kpa, 2,6bar) and 2,9bar 290kpa 42psi back tire. pressure set cold of course! Thanks for the reply!

To get the best out of your bike you need to experiment with suspension, can't believe there are owners out there that never touch it. Also chains can't be ignored they need adjustment, surely this is just common sense?

Intimidation/fear of making it "worse" is the hurdle we can help riders overcome with patience and helping them 1-1 with a few tasks so they get started. If we can all pay it forward in our own town/city/village, we might see a reversal in the bias.

that results from riding away from a corner, not driving through the entire corner. Paradigm shift from brake, turn gas to brake, gas and turn simultaneously.
