Paul declared: “Thanks be to God for his indescribable gift!” (2 Corinthians 9:15). The gift in this verse refers to salvation (Ephesians 2:8). We have done nothing to deserve this gift since God gives us salvation based on His unmerited favor.

God's Ways for Laying Up Treasures in Heaven Believe He is a rewarder. ... Be self-controlled and content in all things. ... Seek out the treasures of God's word. ... Become a vessel of His good works. ... Invest your “talents” wisely (Matthew 25:20-21, above). Receive persecution as a blessing. ... Sell what you have and give to the poor.

So what does it look like to lay up treasures in heaven? It means believing God's promises and identifying with God's people despite the sure affliction that will follow (Hebrews 10:32-34). God is faithful to his promises and what he promises his people-salvation, life and inheritance-is eternal and incorruptible.
