I am fast approaching 70yrs old, yet I can still vividly remember trips I made as a "young lad" of 5yrs old when I lived in Melbourne. It was my first look at a real steam engine. I remember a black boiler and lots of steam. I also remember my father sitting with his legs dangling outside the train, and my mother being quite concerned that he might fall off the train. The train was travelling quite slowly because I seem to remember my dad jumping off the train and then on again, just to "freak out" my mum! Oh how such memories hang on long into history. I still remember these rides as a fantastic experience. 65 yrs and the line is still in existence says a lot for the people who are committed to keeping this line running.

I had left a comment but it included a link to the Puffing Billy web page about these awesome engines. Now I see that you and I can’t view that message. 😔 I LOVE these engines! One of the standard WWI engines was inspired partly by this type if I am not mistaken. Learning about this preserved railway means I have something else to add to my bucket list.

Fair enough, I’ve done a lot of research about these engines so if there’s anything else you’d like to know, just give us a comment and I’ll reply, it’s a beauty of a little railway. If your ever down this way. I highly recommend it
