Very nice. Edinburgh is a fantastic city. However, while you spent time in the Old Town, by not exploring the fabulous New Town you missed the Georgian architecture you mentioned. Edinburgh really is a tale of two cities - Old and New - with the grandeur of the New Town really starting a few streets beyond Princes Street and running down the hill to the narrow river named the Water of Leith. Within a mile of so along that water one can find the Gallery of Modern Art (galleries One and Two), Dean Village, Stockbridge, Circus Lane, St. Stephen Street, Saxe Coburg Place, the colony-style homes of Glenogle Road and the Royal Botanic Gardens. Of course the Old Town is fabulous and fascinating. But anyone visiting Edinburgh should also walk the streets of the New Town and visit the aforementioned sites along the water of Leith. It was wonderful that you enjoyed you stay. Hopefully you will return. Cheers!

Thanks very much for these tips! Actually our hostel was in the New Town but we hadn't enough time to explore many other things. Your description makes us to come back to Edinburgh soon! 😊

Please visit again. Spend time in the Highlands, Glencoe and Isle of Skye. Those places will blow your mind.

We just looked at both destinations. That looks really impressive! But that just takes more time. We'd love to make it one day.

Athens of the North - because built on 8 hills like Athens.

We've read it because of some similarities with Athens e.g. the National Monument, which looks like the Parthenon. But what you describe would also be a good explanation. 😀
