Dear SSLFamilyDad - While building your pallet hay feeder the side brace fell and I was not fast enough. My manhood took a hit which felt like what I imagine being kicked by a horse must feel like. Currently typing this with a pack of ice on the boys. Just a word of warning, keep those man berries protected while doing DIY.

I think this would work for horses too. Your thoughts? Now what do I do with the Big rolls of hay? Should I just put a pallet on the ground and have them put hay roll on top of it? The rolls will take my horse at least a month or more to eat, should I have some sort of covering for her hay ( to protect from rain and snow)? And how do I build that from pallets. Must be somewhat easy as I’m a lady with a 6”electric hand saw and a drill.

I would create a pallet bin to set the round bale in. That will keep the hay in as the tear into it

Thanks so much for this video! Is it OK for their hay to be exposed to the elements all the time? Is it at danger from getting moldy? I know if someone whose horses died from moldy hay. We’re new with goats so I’m not sure if it’s the same thing with them. Thank you so much!
@SSLFamilyDad

Goats can handle moldy hay but will mostly pick through it and only eat the good stuff. Horses cannot and can get very sick. Hay should be stored dry in a barn and fed to them in small amounts in the hay feeder

How correct you are. Kids Won't eat anything off the ground, well I wouldn't say Anything, as there are a few exceptions. They love momosa and even dried leaves.

Hey just happened upon a plywood flooring project you did a while back and I thought I heard you say you're in MI? My family and I are new home owners in the metro Detroit area and are taking on a fair amount of work, so cheap ideas like the plywood flooring interest me. Thanks for the idea.

SSLFamilyDad don't mentioned the Lord told me to. Also I work with tools daily and realize the importance of the proper tool. It makes the job much more tolerable. My grandfather always said. There is a tool for everything and everything has a tool.

Neat. I fixed a wall mounted one a couple years ago. Then i fixed a 2 sided hay holder around a pallet using 2x4 welded wire. I plan to do your free standing one this year. Thank you. Stay warm.

Since goats like climbing on things, I suspect the feeder will be tipped over by them. The feeder is heavy enough to injure who it falls on. Two horizontal pieces of pallet wood attached under the corner legs would greatly stabilize it. Great video - I like the editing and music.
@SSLFamilyDad
@SSLFamilyDad 6 жыл бұрын
I thought about maybe adding two pieces connecting the legs and extending out a couple feet. So far it seems tall enough tjat they can't jump in it and haven't tipped it over so hopefully it will be good!

I was wondering how your combination of horned and hornless goats are fairing? Getting ready to bring in horned with my polled. I have heard horror stories, but I see quite a few KZbinrs who have mixed herds and seem to have no problem.
@SSLFamilyDad
@SSLFamilyDad 5 жыл бұрын
They do just fine. The boys will fight a bit and I have seen the one without horns get a bloody spot on his head but he learns quickly to let up when head ramming! Our females are all mixed, some have horns and some do not and they do just fine. Let them duke it out a bit and just watch them the first few days, even if there is a little blood they will be ok, their heads are super tough

@@SSLFamilyDad Thanks. Just brought our goaties home. I don't feel so nervous now. i'm glad your mixed herd is successful. It's a very good talking point for content. NOt a lot of articles discussing this topic or there is just negative scary stuff.
