A side punch with a hand still requires a greater reduction in distance than a straight one. Such actions with a "straightened" hand still require being a long-armed, lanky guy. I doubt that such actions would be good for any other anthropometry. However, moving the back leg to the side and a side punch with a hand is well used as a counterattacking action, after provoking an attack on yourself. And yes, then you can do a finishing blow after the side punch with a hand. Please show this if you can.
