Quilava in an ice area, Drowzee in the water... is this Fool's Gold in disguise? Also, I like how KZbin recommended me the LockPickingLawyer video which has a Moomin padlock.

Funny, I only had silver as a kid during Gen 2's time, so Silver sprites look comfy to me, even if they are kinda goofy. I have played enough Gold and crystal after to know the other sprites since then

I miss the era of 2d sprites. Games having different sprites added to the uniqueness of the experience. Now it's been 4 generations of 3d models all with the same identical (lackluster) animations, it's kind of a letdown.

As soon as they went 3D I completely lost interest in new pokemon games. And it's weird, because I love Colosseum and XD, so I'm not totally opposed to 3D models as a concept. I think the execution is just bad.
@russianbot85762 жыл бұрын
ngl i do wish they would start adding in more expressive animations, since the models are the same. that said i don't really know how 3d model rigging works so i don't want to act like i do and belittle the amount of effort involved. it may also be that having some with more expressive animations makes the ones that don't _really_ stand out, and the result would cause as much outrage as not doing so. for example, only rigging say, the top 100-150 most popular/cute/cool mons would inevitably lead to backlash because it's so noticeable, and favouritism complaints along with everything else isn't worth the effort? there is an argument to be made too that the lack of expressiveness means people can kind of make their own mind up about how certain mons act and so on. the more the company adds expression the more people complain that pokemon don't act like they expect or whatever. idk. i do prefer the sprite work but i tend to prefer illustration and 2d animation over 3d. but like, the amount of mons started to show itself a problem by emerald, and by gen 4 a lot of mons only animated via distortion or stretch/squash effects or bounce effects or fade or some combo between (and those that didn't had only two frames, compare monferno and bidoof to crystal intro animations). i do think that the 2d allowed for oddities like forehead weezing--that is, it makes sense to me that weezings all look different and so some sprites don't match the concept model. the 3d models don't and can't allow this. edit: and don't forget the relatively bad spritework for the original 251 in ruby/sapphire which also probably shows the effort involved! want to add: sprites just work better for some mons too, like golduck. 3d models ruined some mons because they were never expected to be 3d.

Agreed. And honestly, I don't really particularly like any 3d character model I've seen in a mainline pokemon game.

These 2games1controller playthroughs and the way they desynchronize give me an idea. What if you had dozens of these all hooked up to the same controller, but instead of trying to always sync them up, you can only see one screen at a time? Like, the others would keep playing, but you'd be blind to them. Screen changes randomly every minute (or maybe every 5 minutes) and you'd have to figure out what to do next in that time while also keeping in mind the games that are playing in the background. After a while you'd just end up in a random save-state with no idea how you got there. At some points the game might switch and you'd be like "Oh crap, that's gym music. Am I winning or losing?" Or maybe finding out that you released your starter by accident. I have no idea how someone would even set something like that up, and I think it would require some tweaking to make it fun and interesting to play. If you tried it with 20 vanilla gen I games, all of the instances would likely just get stuck in or around Pallet Town with only the starter and you'd just end up having to play the game 20 separate times which would probably be pretty boring both to play and to watch.

It's funny just how well vaporeon walled charizard as it could tank all of charizard's moves while one shoting him with Hydro Pump, the one pokemon that would have walled blastoise just as well was probably Magneton which thankfully did not appear in the final fight.

At this point, the only thing that GS has over Crystal to me is how easy it is to mess with the game via arbitrary code execution. All because of a bugged up Coin Case. It's eerily fascinating how it works when you arrange your items in an extremely specific way to manipulate the data.

I think my only real complaint is that Charizard gets to use Surf but Blastoise doesn't have anything that is 'outside of his normal learning' for coverage. There were a lot of mons that would NOT have been -as- easy kills for a normal Charizard that Surf made a breeze, imho. Turtle was cheated again D= Also, I had Silver, so the weird sprites are perfectly normal to me. And I kinda hate Crystal as a whole >_> I'm sure it fixed some things but a lot of the things added I just didn't care for, 'better' or not, you know? Same problem I have with Emerald.
