thank you so much for putting the birds in. my grandparents just passed, and they always loved the little birds. for days before they actually went to heaven god sent the little birds, they would fly up to our windows or sit on the fence as I walked by. so, thank you it was like a 'glimmer' (opposite of a trigger) for me especially since I know they will never read my book on this earth.

Abbie, I have a writing night with my fellow writing friend every Monday and we play the "2 HOUR IMMERSIVE WRITING SESSION FOR DEEP FOCUS | relaxing music, real-time, 5-min break" video to help us "body double" and stay motivated and focused. I LOVE that you've added this, we'll be using it next Monday! The vibe, the cute little breaks, your motivational messages, all make these so perfect. These deep focus ones are honestly such a great tool for us. The only note, is that we could do without the typing ambience, for us it's distracting because it's louder than our own typing.

First off, great video as always! Second: #Askabbie I'm currently writing a murder mystery about a character who lost her mind after her entire family was killed, and wants revenge. I'm thinking about there being a twist where the character was actually the one who killed her own family. Still, her brain blocked it out and created a fantasy scenario for her to live in. (Her core misbelief is her believing fantasy is always better then reality.) Basically, she had an abusive family, and dealt with it until she snapped. Problem is, I kinda still want there to be a happy ending of this novel/everyone getting redeemed, but is that possible with this twist, where the M.C is in a rather bad light?
@nikkinewbie60145 ай бұрын
Gosh! I’d read that book! That’s a good premise? If that’s the correct word to use. I think another message could be that seeking revenge isn’t the best route and can be self destructive. I assume much of the second act is her trying to discover who killed her family; but when the whole exercise results in her finding out she herself did it, she then finds her way to a better path of forgiveness- for herself. I love a good redemption story. Those are powerful! I think that even for a heinous act like you’re contemplating for the mc, I as a reader could buy redemption - in the right circumstances - especially if the act is committed “back to the wall self-preservation” style. In fact it would seem to me that the mc’s mind breaks because she’s too good of a person to consciously cope with what she did. I’d buy that all day long versus a premeditated act for sure. Ending the story with the mc confessing to the police what she had done and why, after she has obtained full recall of the details resulting in a finding of not guilty by reason of temporary insanity in a court of law - maybe just the judge not a jury trial seems viable. Also maybe the mc voluntarily seeks psychiatric therapy to help herself continue to heal and forgive herself. That would be a satisfying end for me. I think redemption with accountability is a great way to go. Maybe throw a ride or die love interest in there? 😅. Maybe he even had an inkling she did it but wrestled with what to do about it (internal conflict) lol. Ultimately he chooses to let her come to the realization on her own but stands by her when it all falls out. Maybe he could be a detective she hired to help run down “the killer” or maybe he’s a forensics guy she consults with who has seen the cold case and figures it out. Along the way they fall for each other. You could drop breadcrumbs that he had figured it out that Reader sees after the twist and on the REREAD of your book 😀💯. Definitely internal conflict for the love interest 😂😂. Forgive me for getting into your mix. I hope I haven’t offended and maybe I’m way off your intention for your story. I hope Abbie answers you with her authority on storytelling. My comment is just preemptive feedback for how I as a reader of your story could be convinced to sympathize with and want to see your mc come out on top - even after you reveal what she had done. 🫢! 😮😮🤔🤔🥲🥲😊😊❤️ I’d love to know what you end up doing (are you going to go forward with it?). 😃. Feel free to comment back if you like and if not that’s cool and I’d understand. Either way, I’m sending you creative, moral support for your story and if you finish it and offer it for sale, provide the info so I could buy it. I love Abbie’s community! Take care and good luck!

@@nikkinewbie6014 OMG TYSM!!! :DDDD Thank you so much for all the advice!! Your comment means alot to me! I kinda read it over and over again before I responded lol. Yes, the act would be her with her back to the wall situation, and it would involve The M.C nearly blacking out when she did it, killing everyone in the vacinity out of fear. I'm glad you think a redemption could happen!! I am in love with the idea that she also learns that revenge doesn't do anything, it'll help her forgive herself at the end! I love the breadcrumb idea! I'm already thinking, that since she has P.T.S.D from the event that her nightmares would reveal more then her mind lets her see. Any other cool breadcrumbs you'd like to see? So, I love the idea of her confessing her act to the police, but there's only one problem (I only say cause I'd love your advice on this!) she is already paying for a different crime. See, she killed who she thought was the murderer (Then, in the second act, she gets the idea that someone else was involved, thus yet another revenge idea) and killed him. Which is illegal. And plus, she didn't have any evidence he killed her family, so she was sentenced to indentured servitude to the king. Talk about a bad day. Definitely for the love interest idea! Or at the very least the few people who are close to her! I'm glad it wouldn't be to bad to have the people close to her still stick with it. And one hundred percent for the psychatric help idea!! Especially because a majority of the theming revolves mental health, and healthy vrs unhealthy ways to deal with trauma! And also your/the readers opinion of the book is alot more important to me then Abbie's, so I really appreciate it! Also, if you want to read the book, or what I've got so far, and I totally understand if you don't want to, but I'm Sundrop2 on Deviantart and my book is titled "The Trickster King's Servant"! I can give you a link if you want, but since it's kinda sus to leave a link on KZbin, I figured it be easier to tell you so you can google it! (If you want!!) I'd just love to see your thoughts on it!! Thanks again for the advice, compliments, (And making my day! :D)

@@KaylieghHereford 😄😄. I’m so relieved you received this in the spirit I offered it! 😅😅. After I wrote it I felt like you could have thought I was overstepping; so I’m honored by your response! Also, I’m happy to take a look at your story and thanks for providing the information to find it. If I can’t get to it somehow I will ask you for the link. Your additional detail about your story intrigued me! With indentured servitude to a King, it sounds like a very different genre than what I was imagining. Honestly, I tend towards contemporary thriller/ suspense/ romance. But good story is good story and we in Annie’s community now look at books differently being on this author journey right? It’s not just about reading only our favorite genres for enjoyment but actually getting in there under the hood to learn how to craft and see what works and why. I’m viewing all story as teachables for myself so I’ll seek your story out for sure! 😀. About the fact she already killed somebody else because she thought they did it 😮😮😂😂 - as long as that person was guilty of something equally heinous as killing her family versus killing a completely innocent person, I could still get behind your MC on a redemption path. 🤔😀. For me it just raises the stakes and intensifies that seeking revenge almost always ends to the bad for the seeker. Further more, your mc making such a significant (life/death) mistake definitely brings a depth of characterization to your mc and the story itself. She’s done things she can’t take back but now has to atone and find a way to live with it all. This is reality for many folks - maybe not killing the wrong someone or killing anyone at all - but if we live long enough we all make at least one decision we come to vehemently wish we could take back and make a different choice. I really like that you are going to lean into the mental health aspect of the mc and how it changes within the plot of her journey. Kudos for being courageous enough to do that because it’s big league! I just had to respond when I saw this but I’m actually out and about rn 😂😂. Give me a few days to get back to you after I have had the opportunity to read what you’ve written and I’ll give you my reaction as a reader - but definitely not advice. That’s for Abbie! 😂😂. Best regards! 💯

@@nikkinewbie6014 No!!! Not overstepping at all!!!! I love advice and I really appreciate it!!! :D I'm glad you like that idea!! Yeah, it's definitely a murder mystery but it's also more of a fantasy/psychological horror!! I'm honored you'd like to read it! It is really hard to make a good psychological book, and alot of them fall flat because nobody's done any research :/ and I hope my book doesn't fall into it!! Psychology is my passion (I want to be a child therapist when I grow up) so I just had to write it in there, though! Especially cause I feel like there's not enough books dealing with mental health, especially ones that are for teens, which my book is! And that reminds me: Trigger warning for the book--the book will have self-harm, mental breakdowns, anxiety, violence, suicidal ideation, and depression. But there will be no language and NO s*xual content! So read with caution! Also yes, I was thinking the person she killed thinking that he killed her family was a pretty bad person! (Maybe he was the one who helped kill the king's own family?) I really love your reviews and comments and they mean alot to me!!! Best regards to you to! Hope you have an awesome day!
