BB, I’d say (from experience) gaffing big “green” fish is unwise. Funny until it’s not… In my case it was a Cobia that was trying to get some of what the hooked fish had in its mouth. That green Cobia tore up a bunch of things. Had to stay clear because the fish had the gaff flopping around as it bounded at will for what seemed like 5 minutes. If you had boated that green Cuda, I’d venture to say all your tackle boxes near the splash well would have been overboard in the blink of an eye. That was easy to see. I had always wanted to gaff a fish like that! Got it done… one and done. Best & be safe!
