When hooked, first cut the line and free the person from the pole. Second, remove bait and wash the wound. If the barb hasn't passed thru the skin, you have to push it thru (or go to the emergency room for surgical removal). Cut the hook past the barb, wash again and remove. Fishing hooks become harder to remove after a few minutes because of swelling. Treble hooks are the worst! OUCH!
