I agree there must be some point further up where a decision could be made to increase budget. I know Sims is profitable from financial reports just not to what degree they have flexibility. We won't be finding out exactly where the buck stops, I suppose. I don't think there has to be any sneakiness involved though, just tight financial goals.

That "we don't withhold content" was clearly a reference to My First Pet Stuff. If this is just leftovers from DU, they at least did a better job of disguising it. Maybe that's why we are getting a Tiny House pack about 4 years behind the trend? LOL
@DoveJS4 жыл бұрын
@@jennw6809 I mean, probably a lot of things in Sims has never been perfectly on trend. They get in the ballpark and almost always catch up. But yeah, pretty sure MFPS was the reference. XD
@DoveJS4 жыл бұрын
I don't know about that. For instance, they definitely might have made it match since it inspires people who like that style to look closer at it; not quite the case with My First Pet Stuff though, which is the reference they were making (which I think was either a failed experiment to test the waters on what people will accept out of a stuff pack or they couldn't fit some of the matching furniture into C&D, ran out of time or item count, and shoved it into MFPS because otherwise, it would've been a waste of time and effort.) I see Tiny Living just being more compatible, the way Laundry Day and Cats and Dogs go pretty well together. Then again, LD goes with a lot of packs. But for instance, I don't think of a Murphy bed when I think of college. That's maybe an apartment thing.

@@Boethion That's kind of the Sims 4 in a nutshell though: you have to make up your own rules to have fun or you get into a rut. I enjoy relaxing with my Sims when they don't have to suffer if I've had a stressful day myself, but it's more fun playing when they have to struggle a bit to achieve my goals. I'll get this pack eventually, but for me, comparing it and the upcoming knitting pack, I'm more interested in the latter. At least it's a new skill with new things your Sim can make so it gives you something new to actually do for a while. Tiny Living just gives multiple buffs, extends the time of the buffs, and makes it so you're less likely to move your Sims out in the future. But then you're building smaller and only upgrading with... I dunno, getting a computer if you didn't already have one? Focusing really hard on your aspirations? The only true upside is that having a greenhouse would count against your limit so as a gardener, you're mostly forced to go with the seasons when growing plants (if you have Seasons.) Also, the Tiny Living pack would make Uni easier if you start with a fresh Sim and don't want to live on campus (or if you want to have a really nasty ghost haunting an apartment in Myshuno, for story purposes.) lol Oh right and of course this pack would be amazing for Rags to Riches! I'm not saying this is a bad pack; it definitely has a purpose. I just think it's hard to escape having to make your own rules in Sims 4 where the only reward is whatever you make it, to some extent. XD

Does the Murphy bed really take less space? I see closed it takes 8 tile spaces with the bookcases, regular beds take up what... 6? Yeah it has a couch, sometimes but you can sit you a bed already so... also when the Murphy bed is open it takes up just as much (if not more) then a regular bed. Or am I just confused?
@kestaa4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, at 7:30 it looks like the murphy bed takes up the same 6-tile footprint as a regular double bed (the shelves on the side can be removed), and I assume they need a tile of clearance at the foot for Sims to get past them when they're folded down. The ones with the attached loveseat technically take up less space - but the trade-off is that you can't put a coffee table in front of the loveseat if you want the bed to work. And it doesn't save _that_ much space anyway. I could, if I wanted to, mount a TV on the wall above the headboard of a regular bed, and put a loveseat at the foot of the bed so sims could sit on that to watch TV, and only use 2 more tiles than what the murphy bed needs.
@tealkerberus7484 жыл бұрын

Thanks for condensing this for us! Seeing all the objects now, I feel like the Sims team has jumped on a bandwagon that they don't fully understand? To me, it was already possible to make tiny homes in the Sims 4 (of course, move objects is necessary), but there are some annoying limitations - we can't build lofts, we are stuck with one size for appliances (fridges, ovens, sinks, showers), etc. Things that would have ACTUALLY made tiny building easier would be smaller versions of those (yes, DU has a mini fridge, but this pack should be stand alone based on how it's marketed), loft beds if not the ability to add half floors which you can access by ladder but not stand up in, and more items that look like they have storage in them - like a couch with storage, or a stairwell with a closet and drawers built into it. They also neglected the tiny house on wheels movement entirely. I appreciate the one-tile dressers, but other than that I don't feel like this pack adds much or helps me do what I was trying to do, which is recreate real tiny homes I have seen.
@tealkerberus7484 жыл бұрын
R VANK a quarter-tile basin, so that you could have a three-tile bathroom with the shower at one end, toilet at the other, and basin on the wall facing the door but it wouldn't block access. And a sliding door! A stovetop that doesn't have an oven under, so you have cupboard or the dishwasher there, or even the rubbish bin. A sink that allows the bin under, like in my home, or a bin in a cupboard under the bench like I've seen in many places. And mirror-image showers in base game! They all face the same way, and it's *SO* annoying when you could build the perfect bathroom if only you had a mirror image of any of these showers!

My Eugenics II chateau (I need to get back to that) on Carl's forum has a dining room of 75 tiles. So... yeah. I loaded it up just to count tiles. In total its 3250. Tiny Living adds interesting balance, because over generations, and raising toddlers and children, and the various skills needed for careers, I think a mansion comes out on top. It'll be easier to raise top notch toddlers, gold scouts etc in a house bigger than 100 tiles. And that pays off in skill gain. Having raised many supersims (in big houses) my feeling is not "if only they could raise skills faster".

It seems to me a choice usually made out of consciousness for the environment or economical... but yeah, the skill gains thing is strange and overpowered.

Nah, I prefer tiny homes, I just wouldn't agree with that relationship boost or whatever it is, they should change that to negative so the sims more often argue and fight since they share that small space with others lol

Lucija Dugandzic or add an annoyance to each sim that they go ballistic over. Like leaving dirty dishes about or not flushing being a trigger to start a fight or get them angry.
@tealkerberus7484 жыл бұрын
Lucija Dugandzic making good relationships better and bad ones worse seems fair - Geoffrey Landgraab and Malcolm can only be civil to each other a few minutes at a time, so they need a large house to avoid one another! And the bills thing is okay, but the skills buff is nonsense. You don't concentrate better for being in a cramped space with too many other people!

I think some in the community tend to forget that The Sims team are employees, and they have strict guidelines for how many "assets" they can put into each size of pack, the amount of time/resources/money spent on them and a time frame in which to complete it all. If you follow the Gurus anywhere - twitter, The Sims forums, Reddit - it really seems that they love what they do, and even they sometimes seem frustrated at things they're not able to do or fit into a pack. (I believe this is where some of the "free updates" end up coming from.) I do wish the pack came with a couple more TRUE tiny house things however - a nicer compost toilet instead of the regular one that's in the pack. A smaller sink. A LADDER. A trash compactor that fits under the counter (this could have literally been a modded dish washer) and a washer/dryer combo IF you have Laundry Dry would have been so perfect. As someone who follows the tiny house movement irl and is even working on down sizing and drawing up the plans to build our own - I was so hoping for this pack, and it fell a bit short for me without some of these key TH features. That being said, the team did an amazing job on the look and feel of the items. The textures are soooo nice! Soon they're going to need to update base game textures or it will feel like a older version of the game in comparison, lol. Tyfs! Your input is always interesting and appreciated. Hope you have a lovely week. Best of wishes!

The furniture looks beautiful and is reason enough for me to get the pack but I really, _really_ wish ladders were added. And the buffs for the tiny houses look a little OP. But I'm excited to build an off-the-grid tiny house!

Guess I'll wait for you to report on the buffs stacking with other buffs before I shell out for this. A tiny home is not a severe constraint since you have family inventory, but it kind of breaks immersion to have to go into build mode to train another skill.

Strict time restraints and inflexible higher-ups WOULD explain a fair bit about why some content takes ages to come out. . .I'm still side-eyeing My First Pet Stuff, though. (There's no getting around the main problem with that pack being SO MUCH of its content relies on Cats & Dogs!) It's a decent explanation for the lack of bunk beds, though, and I totally agree that I want less of that ridiculous "fade-out/fade-in" animation. As for the pack itself -- I like the objects in it; having combo stuff is nice, and the style fits well with other stuff. I have the same mixed feelings about the tiny house lot perks that I have about the CAS Story bonuses, though -- yeah, they're great for those who enjoy them! But they make those of us who just want their Sims to have SOME FREAKING SPACE feel kind of left out. Can we at least have Lot Perks become a more generalized thing and have other types of lots get other perks? (. . .actually, hang on, what happens if you stack some of these perks with Lot Traits? You could get a REALLY broken system for skilling up or making friends if you knew what you were doing. . .)
@tealkerberus7484 жыл бұрын
docette2015 the lot traits are determined by how many floor tiles you have, not how many roof tiles. So put the kitchen and bathroom indoors, then extend the roof to keep out the weather, prop it up on columns, and put high fences around the spaces you want to make private. Sims who love the outdoors will be very happy, and it's just like living in a camper trailer parked under a big carport!

Nice video, concise, informative, yet still entertaining. I do like the look of a lot of the stuff in the pack, and I like that most everything can actually match everything else. It all looks really good, they did well on it in that respect. And I respect that they do the best they can with the limitations placed upon them. But, as others have said, it’s not really tiny living stuff. There are so many more compact items that should have been made for it if they were going to focus on it being tiny living style! I do like that they are starting to convert some of the hairstyles for children and toddlers finally! Maybe I’ll eventually be able to get rid of some of the CC I have just so my children and toddlers don’t all look the same. It does look like they tried to do better with this pack. The item appearances are great. But like pretty much all the packs, I’ll wait to get it until it goes on sale because it just doesn’t offer me enough value for the money as it is. And they need to retune that bed as In James’s video, his sim died the first time he used it, and in Deli’s the second time! I mean if you like killing off sims this is great I guess, but even then, where’s the challenge to it? For the majority of players though, who is going to want to risk a sim they’ve invested in to such an easy death? o.0
@BlueLithiumxXx4 жыл бұрын
i have a question about the build: what is their excuse to make that questionable premade lot? because 1- now all sims 4 players that own the pack will have a 64 bit computer that (probably) can perform better and 2- it's a tiny space, so you can decorate it without clutter and make it look nice. what's their excuse gonna be now? that somehow those objects are higher poly? that they didn't have enough items? just say that you lazily put it together and call it a day.
@CarlsSimGuides4 жыл бұрын
Often it is just the SimGurus who do these builds, and they try to make something serviceable but have those resource limits. In this case yeah the resource limits seem a non-issue. I do wish they would hire some really talented builders who can do a lot with a little, and only use those to make the lots but they are just hyper-aware people will build over it or use the gallery. But that does seem like a chicken and egg problem eh.

Thanks for this Carl , i did see a longer version its not for me, it would have been if it wasnt for the lot rewards for the tiny homes being so rediculous, i like a challenge for my sims, i know you can opt not to choose tiny lot, but if im buying a pack i want to use al of it, if they hadnt messed with the lot triats for it i would have bought the pack :D

There is one +3 energy toddler bed but it’s buried and out of order in the build mode menu (like usually the higher quality beds are further down as you scroll but this one is before other +1 energy beds.). That bed was a game changer for me when playing with toddlers.

Itzel GC they said the new thing to upgrade beds applied to all beds. I checked. It doesn't apply to toddler beds. I'm hoping they will fix that, since I raised it in conversation on Twitter. 3 energy still isn't enough. My sim family are multi-millionaires, who says they're okay with giving their precious darlings an energy 3 bed? Gimme a 10/10/10 toddler bed now, and not in that damned Princess Cordelia style that my own great-grandmother would have admired!
