The buku buku no mi is almost the epitome of a fruit being underutilized by its user. The ability to trap people inside a book with the setting of your choosing has basically endless possibilities. Instead of trapping Luffy and Nami in a jail why not drown them in an endless ocean? Place them in an arena with ridiculously strong opponents? Etc. And the long range communication could be a huge boon as well and allow a level of communication and coordination that exceeds what your enemies are capable of.

and i think the mochi fruit isnt super confusing, he can turn his body into mochi but he isnt always mochi itself, when van auger shot ace his body is technically always fire, right? so it passed through him without ace having to use his power, but kat has to will his body into being mochi. i think crocodile stating that he reflexively turns his body into sand through training has been retconned as the series has progressed. kats awakening turns the environment around him into mochi which is the signature characteristic of paramecia awakening.

luffys fruit turning his body into rubber all the time is a characteristic of a logia, though this may also apply to the diamond fruit of jozu as well. but he doesn’t need to be hit with haki to be damaged, but haki is the only way he can feel pain, along with heat as seen with his fight with enel. luffy also has his gear 4 hybrid form, and his gear 5 awakened form, which is characteristic of zoans, although you don’t normally have to be awakened to achieve the full transformation as luffy. when he is awakened he also turns the environment around him into rubber which is characteristic of a paramecia.
