Perfect for tv ultra hd display and being used in the shop.. absolutely mesmerizing, the red lotus in the back, if it shows the leaves it could be more color. Matches with the discus

What's the plant sticking out of the water on the back?
@lukecanning1271

So I’ve decided to attempt setting up a similar tank. This is far and away the best planted discus tank I have ever seen. There are a lot of opinions out there when it comes to discus and it seems like you’ve been able to get away with things like using co2 and fertilizing; regular but not excessive water changes; using aqua soil; keeping discus at the lower end when it comes to temperature; and yet the discus look healthy and vibrant and the tank looks incredible. On the other hand, even experienced aquariasts like George Farmer and Jeff Senske have openly talked about their struggles with a discus tank that has anything but the most Spartan hardscaping, no co2 and fertilizers. It’d be really beneficial to hear about what you’ve learned over your first year - an alternate perspective and experience to inspire others to attempt planted, hard-scaped discus tanks. Subjects & Questions I’d love to have you address in this thread, and then maybe make a follow up video on later; would be: 1. CO2: Do your co2 level fall on line with tanks that are largely fast growing stem plants, or have you lowered it? 2. Fertilizer: What’s your fertilizing regime for a tank of mostly epiphytes? 3. Water: 50% water change once a week, or do you do something special? Do you recommend using “aged” pre-heated water? 4. Feeding: How often, what type of feed, and how do you keep that sand looking so pristine? 5. Plants: what have you had to replace along the way? Any algae issues? Am I crazy or is that some anubius in the deep shade? 6. Temperature: Have you kept it at 28? 7. Tank mates: Seems like fewer rummynose, Sterbai, Pygmy and so on. Just my imagination or… 8. Additional maintenance: For example, sand and hardscape, what’s the routine look like? 9. Initial 3 weeks: I understand why you never show it. It’s ugly. Might even scare folks away from the hobby. But honestly, it’d be so beneficial to see what happened in those first three weeks and how you addresses the issues. 10. Discus: Have you found the growth rate over the first year to be normal, or slow? Have they paired off? Any behavioural issues - and if so, how have you dealt with them? I’m sure I can think of more. 😅

1. CO2 levels are controlled with a pH computer, the level is surely a bit lower than that with other tanks, but seems to be stable enough for the low-demanding plants. 2. We use Green Aqua ferts: Micro, Macro, and Carbon, normal dosage for high-light tanks. 3. We have two water changes weekly and use the RO water from a barrel that is pre-heated to room temperature (there's a heater in it) 4. We feed discus food once or twice a day. They eat it all, even from the sand. The sand is cleaned every morning though. 5. Anubias don't really need a lot of light, they thrive in very dark places. No, we did not really have problems with plants or algae. I'm surprised too. Good tech helped. 6. Yes, 28 degrees. 7. We sometimes lose a couple of fish due to them jumping out, but not a serious issue, and I don't particularly think that we lost many in this tank, at least not more than usual. 8. For the sand, we vacuum it, and remove the soil particles with a magnet, that's it. Hardscape did not need any big maintenance, but we used metallic brushes for removing algae - in other tanks. 9. Nothing really happens, it looks a bit thorn, maybe we get some initial algae (not with this one though, it went surprisingly smooth). And we need to wait for the filter to cycle before introducing fish. 10. Yes, they have paired off, even laid eggs, but they've eaten it. LOL. They do fight with each other, that was a problem, when fleeing to fish jumped out, actually. It always happened during the night, so we started covering the tank with a net for the night. It worked.

Stunning tank! I notice you’re down to 5 discuss from the original 7, and I was wondering what changes & what you’ve learned that this tank has been up and running so long.
@GreenAquaShop
@GreenAquaShop 6 ай бұрын
Well spotted! We lost two when they jumped out at the beginning while chasing each other. We used a net for a while to protect them for the night (it only happened at night) and then removed the net completely, so far so good.
