Hello Jammers! You need to know... this doll became my therapy the last while! Had to share this stuff with you. I hope you will hear the doll-love spark come back to me as I play with her :) She truly helped me get over my emotional hump and end my YT hiatus! Hope you all have a wonderful Independence day! Much love and a big hug to you all! XOXOXO Mama Jammer

You know what’s interesting ? I had a similar experience, after getting a good deal on a beautiful Gene doll , to your point , yes she is bigger than Barbie , but as an adult collector, she really opened my imagination, and picking out clothes and accessories is really fascinating- and her whole glam movie star persona really takes flight . I’m getting the gene book from your last video , a fun read for times when we are stressed or need to unwind . I really love your approach, I’m glad your back and feeling creative - Thanks again MMV

Mellow Mood videos That IS very interesting and cool too! I am glad to hear of another adult collector getting the vapors from her and her glorious stuff! Hope you will enjoy this doll venture too then!! I just finished that book. It was very cute and fun! Def not real doll historical but fun as the dolls’ story! Did you order it yet? Careful of sellers that seem to have upped the price at the moment... I only paid $10. Thanks for the feedback on my approach... I have come back with a determination to just be me... take me or leave me 😁

Super Buddies Forever Yup agreed . I think your appeal with your viewers is that you are down to earth . Honestly some channels make viewers feel unintelligent or like they have to go buy a bunch of crap 💩 I’m good with buying dolls for a good price or very on sale or goodwill , and sometimes I save my rainy day money for the gotta have doll here and there . Right now I want the collector unicorn barbie - she is absolutely stunning to me . Bless ! MMV

Mellow Mood videos Ha Ha! We are certainly exactly the same in how we spread out our doll funds!!! And I totally hear you... I get tired watching videos that talk “at” me. Funny you say this, because I try really hard, not to do that because it annoys me too! Thanks again for you wonderful comments!

They both look great. I have found a Gene Marshall doll at antique/consignment store which had two Gene Marshall dolls in their own boxes and three boxed outfits. I purchased the burnette and took the 3 boxed outfits for $80 for all 4 items. I have always wanted a Gene Marshall doll since 1995, however, they were over $200 and up depending on the outfit in those days. Now, I have my Gene doll with two new gowns with the accessories and a leisure pant with jacket and accessories. I am thinking about going to get the blond Gene Marshall for a Christmas gift. great video

Thank you again! I really enjoyed your first comment about this too! I am still curious which outfits you discovered??? What color is the leisure pants??? That has me curious.... Home for the Holidays? Or the Madarin one??? Please do let m know if you go to treat yourself or the second Gene doll...that was an amazing price!!!

Awesome! I'm back into my Gene dolls myself. I like Tonner dolls, Silkstone dolls, and of course, Gene. I always had to get them on lay-away. Just couldn't afford them outright.

those girls are not cheap and the outfit are quite well done. you scored here wow!!

Thank you! This cheap Gene sparked an expensive wardrobe since then. 😂 Her clothes are amazing! Actually I think I did good.... watching slowly and carefully waiting for sales on wardrobe items... be it inbox or loose. Finding affordable “lots” has been good to me. You collect her too?

@@SB4E.2 glad to see that those girls brought you into it . I am not really a collector but more of a player. I own 50 dolls (males/females) mostly 16"Tonner, Integrity, mme Alexander, Horsman, etc ... plus a couple of Mattel (2 young kids and 2 teen) and some 15"muscular action male to ad some variety. My Gang help me going through my days. I bought or were gifted my dolls naked . I sew, knit, crochet for them all, I make my shoes, wigs furniture for dioramas and take hundred of pictures inside and out. I write stories and adventures with them. it is a full time fun ;) I loved barbie for a long time but since 20 years now that i discovered Gene then later Tyler, their size suited my need to sew better.

What fun challenge, i definetly want to try this and restore some old dolls. But every time i hit up the Good-will im stuck with sharpied up or chewed up dolls. So glad you are feeling better!😀

Esmeralda MacedoDePaz Thank you for the concern Esmerelda! Yes... those problems are def harder to overcome in restoration. Yikes! Hope you find something that will be workable soon! This is the one and only time I have seen these 2 types of dolls.

Beautiful Gene and Tyler dolls! I actually got my first Gene just this week too who came with the same two piece as yours but in blue! I'll definitely try the trick with the eyelashes as I couldn't quite get these 'up' during the washing process. My girl has yellowing to her body and a broken leg which I tried to fix and have secured with rubber bands and a pair of tights, but I love her just the same. Hope you continue to enjoy your dolls x

25lisa03 Oh wow! How exciting! Did you know about her before finding her? Oh!! You got the blue bathing suit!! I am jelly!! I hope to get each color and blue and green are the tougher two! With shoes too???? This was part 2. Mine was actually found with Hacienda on, minus a shoe and stand base. Let me know how the eye lash setting works for you!?There is techniques for yellowing too... hair developer I believe it is 🤔 And I know exactly how you feel because I live that Tyler that looks like my daughter just the same with the busted legs 😁
@deepsea_126 жыл бұрын
I did know about her! I started collecting Tonner dolls a good few years ago and the Gene dolls came up in searches as well. Gene dolls seem to come up now and then on eBay at either great prices, or far too high. The bathing suits are adorable! I was lucky enough to get the shoes with her as well. Once I buy a clean mascara wand I'm going to give the lashes my best shot and will let you know. Ooh hair developer? I'd not heard of that. My searches on solutions have not been very fruitful to be honest! Thank you - I'll try to look that up. I find that sometimes I develop a stronger bond with a damaged/flawed doll for all the time spent trying to get them back on their feet (pun intended!) or back to looking their best :)

25lisa03 Yes! Hair developer... I believe I looked on a facebook page for Gene Marshall, ran by Mel Odom. For what I could see on the feed, not being on FB, I scrolled through and he had a posting about someone doing it. Are you on Instagram?
@SB4E.26 жыл бұрын
25lisa03 Oh and also... I recently in real time fixed up Gene hair with perm rods... the hair is great! Takes curls in a different way I was not use to... in a good way!!

I'm so sorry I took so long to respond to you! Yes I'm on instagram, but I don't really post anything, mainly just follow - and yes I follow you haha. I'll DM you a picture of my Gene if I can, I recently bought her a new outfit to hide her yellowing a bit. Bit scared to try the hair developer in case it makes it worse. But I'm on FB so I'll check the Gene Marshall page. I LOVE the cabinet you've customised for her, it's beautiful and very worthy of her! I have also found it SO hard to find mascara wands in the UK. I don't know why!!

Yeah, her hair had obviously been redone by previous owner. And some marks on the body might be from fabrics that stain it. I have a few dolls that stained from original outfits. They don't come off. I usually try to line homemade outfits with lighter fabrics to protect her body.

Hello and welcome to the channel! Thank you so much for your details and interest in the Gene stuff!! This channle has kinda gone down the crapper....I have little time or energy for anything dolls these days...but it is nice when people jump in on my newest love, Gene! :) Hope you have a great day and thanks again!

evimlck Yes!!! Ever since this find, I have found out so much about her. Read both the books, tons of articles and videos too. As well as many hours looking up pics of her dolls and fashions. Endless fun! I seriously do have a fabulous OCD Wish List on fashion wants. I am aiming for one a month. My doll budget has dropped tremendously these days due to other family life stuff needing the money directed at it. 😂 Not too mention, my space is so limited these days. She has had a fascinating story! I love that her story has a beginning and end too. The detail in the fashions mesmerize me all the time!

Don't I know that! I too have looked on-line for Gene, Tyler (and Sydney, and Esme, and Brenda Starr), Silkstone Barbie photos all for fun. After I read some of the comments about Gene, I felt guilty 'cause I have so many fashion dolls, mostly Genes. Then I realized that I've been collecting Ashton Drake Gene since 1996 and I almost ALWAYS got them on lay-away.

Awesome to see more of this doll Wendy, she's a beauty and you got such a good Deal! Awesome that you have a second now too- Fun that you're finding more clothing-etc for her. A question- Do you have a solution for color-fasting an outfit? I broke down and bought one of those shibajuku.. dolls (mostly for the outfit) and partly because I was curious about the fuss.. She's definitely a hair play doll.. ANyway- Her outfit is solid black, and straight out of the box- she has color transference on her hands.. so I stripped her down and she's wearing barbie clothes now, but I was wondering if you had a solution for color-fasting an outfit. (my sister suggested a soak of salt water, or vinegar (which the vinegar she says will take the excess color out) Fantastic to see you making vids again :)

Catlina Dances Hello Catalina and thank you!! Those dolls are interesting looking. They make sense as a hair play doll with that head size! Your question, my best tip used for stains on bodies and faces is Zit cream. Common suggestion among doll people. I have used it successfully quite a few times. Not sure what all of the stains were that I removed. Most gone completely, some well faded. You put a generous amount on the stain, (put in sun they say) to set from 1 hour to I have done 24 hours. Clean thoroughly with water after. I dont know every component of how it works, but they say it does work on a lot of stains. There is concern if too long on a darker face it may make it too light. I did almost have that happen. There is a faint lightness I can see was def the shape of the zit cream I used, but the original stain is gone! LOL Hope that helps... let me know!
@catlinadances24136 жыл бұрын
I've actually used that method to remove stains - I had a 1st edition redhead barbie with a red mark on her forehead that i removed.. I was actually asking about color-fasting the outfit- so it didn't happen again. LOL :) but no worries. Thank you for your reply anyway! :)
@SB4E.26 жыл бұрын
Catlina Dances Ah!!! Ok. Sorry. I totally misunderstood what you were asking. Sorry! Good question! Never looked that up. In personal experience I have had some red items that were loaded with dye when I washed them. Happily never trust red when I wash doll clothes. The only thing I did was soak them alone to get the excess dye out. Soak until clear. If that will keep them from staining clothes i dont know. Just knew I would not leave them on dolls for any time. What your sister says makes sense... isn’t a salt bath what you do after dying shirts and such?! So that would make sense! What does it hurt to try?! After drying... leave it in a junk doll to see if it worked 🤗
@catlinadances24136 жыл бұрын
I looked up the recipe- 1/4 c vinegar 1 tsp salt, 4 cups of water- soak 1/2 hour. rinse, dry. I will do as you suggest and put it on a Junk doll to test to start though :)
@SB4E.26 жыл бұрын
Catlina Dances Awesome! I shall keep this process in mind too. I know someday I will come across that perfect doll item that will stain and need this!! Team work ideas! Love it ❤️

Gene's hair is nylon. You have a beautiful Simply Gene. I kinda' feel guilty that I have a spare (straight arm) Tyler body. I used the head for an Antoinette body. I had planned to use the straight arm body for fittings, but I'm into Gene at this time. I'm putting your video into Favorites in case I hear back from you. This Tonner body is mint and if you're interested, I would like to send it to you for free.

Wow, what a cool comment to read!! I am so excited to know what the hair is for sure!!! I have restyled one since this video and woah, is that hair ever nice to style!!!I usually do like to answer and make a point of it, sometimes it just takes some time these days. If you need me quicker for conversation, DM on instagram, same account name as this channel. Wow, also on your offer for the Tonner body that is so kind! I am touched. But I have a question that maybe you can answer... ??? how easy is it to swap heads on these Gene and Tonner dolls???? When I looked previously, no videos were easy to find on the subject. SO I may be too scared to swap a head I am thinking LOL I do want to add this also... thank you but even if easy, that body would be better shared with someone else. I know that if I ever do change the body, I want it articulated. I would prefer Gene size too... I know absolutely I cannot afford, nor desire to step into the Tonner sized clothes. I have a mile long list of Gene stuff to acquire over the next years :) Later I taped her knees, added a longer dress and she just hangs out on display as a cute tribute to my daughter.

I like evening gowns myself (or any kind of long dress). You won't believe..... quite some years ago I removed a Silkstone Barbie head (my first one) and broke the neck knob. Uh oh. Every since then I was careful, never broke another one. There wasn't a strong enough glue for it and it was a clean break. As for removing heads, I sort of cross my fingers. Here's how I do Gene And Tyler....I heat up a kettle and turn it down to simmer just enough for escaped heat, and wrap a small WHITE towel around her head, for what reason, I don't know. Lol. Then heat the part of head that connects with the neck and aim. I use a small, small flat screw driver to help it along...I sqeeze the head a little and go gradually, lifting the head up a bit, bit by bit off the neck.. I also noticed that Gene and Tyler have stronger neck knobs. Hope this helps a bit. I'm sorry I'm not familiar with 'instagram'. I've heard of it, though.
@SB4E.25 жыл бұрын
evimlck ok. Thanks for sharing that! Woah, that must have been a sinking feeling when you broke the first one. I didnt understand the one part, you hold the doll over the kettle steam? Or pour the hot water over the towel/neck? This sounds very similar to the Barbie heads removal. I use a blow dryer for same technique of warming... but they are cheap and easy enough to push the head down on the neck to stretch the heated hike and then pop it off. I feel confident with those. Instagram is just a picture taking social media. There was a time that KZbin had private message but took it away. So insta has always been nice for private Direct Messages that work the same as text without giving my personal number to everyone. Chatting on here works too!
@evimlck45795 жыл бұрын
Now I remember why I wrapped a small towel around the head, so I don't mess up her hair. When I rerooted a Tonner doll, I recently tried my hair dryer and it worked very well. Because if you notice the nape of her neck, you simply can't use a straight needle no-how! Impossible! But I made double sure I wrapped her head because the heat is not good for doll hair, I think. Hair dryer sounds like a good plan, though. Thanxs for explaining about instagram.

Hi my lovely! Great video. Okay...so the eyelashes on the Ashton Drake Gene dolls are always horrible and fall out! Lol lol Not much more to say about that. The outfits are for the most part amazing. I know the one you have but have forgotten the name...Sorry. Absolutely be careful washing etc, some of the outfits were fragile from the get go, but are stunning. You sound a little not okay! Hope you're doing okay generally etc, etc. Miss you Wendy

Sarah Jane Jennings Def pipe in please! I did this video awhile back... since it, in real time I have done some work on the hair... wow! It is different! It takes a curl really well!!! It feels how human hair does when its been processed alot... so curious what it is compared to the Barbie saran & nylon (not that I exactly know how to tell that difference either!) 😂

Sarah Jane Jennings The only Gene dolls I have are Ashton Drake. I have one Integrity Toys Calendar Shot Gene and one Heat Wave Violet. Integrity Toys dolls are immensely expensive, but I don't love them as much as the original Genes. What I want to mention is that I absolutely love the fragrance of Gene's hair. I always smell their hair when take one out of her box. Sure would like to know what Ashton Drake used for their hold.
