I find it interesting how most people like to do the hull first... I usually do guns, then AI, then engine first on tanks. Easier to achieve my desired specs while keeping in mind a self imposed size limit. I then build my hulls around the internal components.

All the factions in Neter have special rules they follow. Some do certain things very well, and they're good example to pick apart to learn from. You can also learn a lot by letting your stuff battle things around its price-point. Watch what causes it to lose, and then adjust your design. Time to kill should be under 10 minutes in the game's time. Anything longer than that means you're woefully under-gunned. If your ship is losing all combat capability before it drops below 85% HP, there are critical issues that need fixed. You'd ideally like to see it fight to around 75%. Being under-gunned can be caused by bad weapon designs just as much by not having enough weapons to start with. Also, don't stack your entire weapon budget into one or two big guns, unless it's a small and cheap design (under 50k total cost). If your ship is dying dramatically faster than the opposition, you're likely woefully under armored in critical areas. Potentially even worse, your ship's active protection systems are not adequate for the cost. Active protection (CIWS, LAMS, ect) is far more effective than passive protection (armor). Active protection under 100k is usually limited to dual purpose systems and limited missile interceptors. Over 250k is usually when you must have dedicated active protection, or your ship will get absolutely smoked by everything.

As someone who only has like 200 hours in ftd none of what he’s doing makes sense to my little caveman brain. Why is he not just spamming the 5 way cooling parts? Why did he lower the amount of propellant in one section of his shells? Is there some galaxy brain stuff going on or is he nerfing his own tank?

@@shadowwolf5549 I don’t always use the 5 way coolers purely because I like the looks of using all the other types of coolers. The shell propellant is actually for fine tuning the shell. When you’re making the shell, on the right hand side menu, you’ll see “Shell + casing length:” right under where it tells you how big of an autoloader you need for that shell. To put it simply, you adjust the propellant amount to try and squeeze as much output from the shell as you can. So let’s say you need a 6m autoloader for a shell, so that stat I was talking about will need to be under 6000mm. So if you have 16 parts to the shell and it’s only at like 5600mm, you can add a shell part and adjust the propellant amount down to be just BARELY under that 6000mm number. Does that make any sense? I know it’s a lot of words typed out and a bit difficult to explain via text

The cooler thing makes sense. You explained the propellant really well. I didn’t know that changing the amount of propellant in a segment lowered the length of the shell since I never tested it. Thanks for the tip, I’ll be sure to try it.
