By golly by gum, George! I've got two stills and didn't even know it! I've got a full size keg and a pony keg. I had gotten them free because someone was tossing them out. I tried to find the company where they come from to get the deposit but that company is long gone. So I'VE GOT TWO STILLS AND DIDN'T EVEN KNOW IT!

To clean an old keg. Take it out side, put on an old rain coat and safety glasses, put a cup of caustic soda in it, pour a jug of boiling water in it and run, hose off old rain coat, empty keg if its not already empty and rinse. No scrubbing required, You might also need a shower.

I have it in pot still mode and i cant for some reason get the flavor to come threw. Not sure of its something i did or its its because im not using a thumpkeg. Any suggestions. Thanks
@BarleyandHopsBrewing6 жыл бұрын
A much misunderstood topic. Watermelon brandy is difficult at best and the flavor of watermelon does not carry over as easily as some others may. Flavoring after distilling is always the best practice. George

Hi Sr. I use to live at Copperas Cove in de the 90s... I was an international student at CTC in the Food and Beverage Management Culinary Arts and Hospitality. I have one question: why it is used de doble stack with this pots??? Can be used the condenser right in the lid of the pot??
@BarleyandHopsBrewing6 жыл бұрын
A double stack is routinely used when a higher proof is desired and the reflux portion is running. Other than that it is perfectly okay to run just the single stack with the condenser. Now if you are asking if a condenser can be added to the lid without any stack the answer is yes. With this set up though the efficiency of your run will suffer. It will still work but you lose control of compacting the vapors prior to the condenser. In a column the pure ethanol will rise and the excess water will drop out in the column allow an efficient run. Without the column there is no way for this separation to happen.

A reflux will deliver a more pure product so the cuts are not as precise or necessary.

Hey George, my question is can you re-use the rolled copper from your column? Thanks.
@BarleyandHopsBrewing6 жыл бұрын
Yes, clean it as soon as distilling is finished. Rinse with warm water and if it is really dirty soak it (25% vinegar 75% water solution) for 30 minutes or so and then rinse. The copper will last a life time. You could also use Tarn-X. This product is sold in the cleaning isle of Wal-mart for about $5. Works extremely well and almost instantaneously but make sure you rinse very well after use with warm soapy water. George

can ya run both elements off 1 pid
@BarleyandHopsBrewing5 жыл бұрын
You could but the question is why would you? The second element in almost all cases is for heating up the still. After that one element is used to control temp. Also, when you add an additional element your total resistance in a parallel circuit goes down and the amperage goes up. Your circuit may not be able to withstand that increase in amps. This is why a fuse trips when too many items are plugged in, one would think that adding to the circuit would increase the resistance and thus drop the amps but the relationship is inverse and the opposite is true.
