Definitely. If i get angry at someone it's because I see a little bit of me in them so I think it's best to try and figure out what that thing is so I can work on it and improve (Not that I do it well). It also means if someone is angry at you it's to do with them, obviously you may have done something annoying but they didn't have to react to it they subconsciously got triggered. New thought, if something is annoying that's just a common enough thing that most people are triggered even if they don't admit or even know it. Do any of us have the self understanding as well as the connection with a lard enough group of people that we can all became aware that something that is commonly known as "annoying" is actually a type of mass denial.

My husband is an INTP and when he gets emotional he's very childlike and in the moment. He gets excited about things very easily and it's very cute. I have never once heard him curse when someone has made him angry. Instead his voice just gets louder and higher pitched and he does whatever he can to insult that person's intelligence. Then his body language becomes very dramatic and he will jump up and down and wave his arms about. Then he'll say something like 'oh my god!' if he's speaking in English or 'mo chun!' I don't understand why most of you guys think that the left guy is an ENTP. I'm INTP myself, very introverted, but I act very friendly, you would see me talking loudly and giving smiles to everybody when I'm in a good mood to fake it. You could misunderstand me for an ENFP easily, as I fake being emotional, and would rather listen to people's stories rather than rave about what's going in on in my mind. I feel like most of INTPs and INTJs are stuck in a small box and can't get out of it. Just so you know, people don't give a crap about our theories, our existential crisis, our inquires.. etc so stop boring them with it, we're not the center of the world.

I'd say the left guy (Eric) is fully going on his goofy aux. function Extroverted Intuition in these videos. I think some people are surprised INTP's have that side, since I think they only let that side out when they're more confortable (Ti is such a serious function, and Ne such a lively and funny function). If they feel less at ease, they will go on full-Ti robot modus, which is very boring in an interactive manner. In that sense I can understand people not thinking he's an INTP but an ENTP, since in these periods of times INTP's can act somewhat like ENTP's . (although he could be an ENTP too) INTPs can sometimes hide their serious Ti side, because it does not really work that well in group situations because it's so robotic. Not sure why I'm talking in a 'them' sense, since I'm an INTP myself. Anyway, I've really learned to get better in social situations by letting my Ne out more in group situations or at least trying that. It works well and much better than going on Ti boring robot mode. However, I noticed when I go back to a more serious conversation or a more intimate setting (1 on 1) I can sort of flip back to my serious Ti function more and make it work there. In deeper and more personal conversations Ti is a great function and Ne much less so. However, still the hardest thing is getting my Ne out when I do not feel comfortable. I want it, but Ithat function seems to get blocked often in these sitautions unfortunately. Sometimes I try to emulate my own Ne function with my Ti with the idea of 'fake it till you make it'...so I try to act more Ne outward, but it's really an act. Then when I'm doing that and the interaction goes well, I start to feel more comfortable again and my Ne function flips on again, and then I can really use the function and be funny and witty and such, which works great in certain interactions. Do others INTPs reconise this?

I find I can express myself more in public than other INTPs I come across but most definitely when I am alone, my natural stasis as being stoic comes out. Yes I am like the most hyper cheerful girl in school while at home I like to stay quite and in my own world in my own thoughts. My mom thought something was wrong with me and I am hiding things from her while I am actully just being myself. One time I was bullied in school and I couldn't understand what I was feeling so I hid it form my mom for months and she started seeing that something was affecting me about school then she made me talk and then I understood I was scared. Maybe that's why she still worries that I might be hiding things like that from her. But staying quite and analysing a few hrs a day keeps me mentally healthy and engertic to interact with people again next day so that they don't think I am weird. That is the best thing because you would also not get too lost in your own analysis and thoughts when you interact with people and few hours each day too. There should be a balance between the time you spend inside your head and the time you spend outside. Too much of both are harmful for an INTP.

I'm so glad you mentioned over-exaggerating emotions. So often I've been told to smile, or that I look mildly unhappy/nervous when I'm feeling totally fine. As a result I've noticed I've begun smiling rather too broadly, or gesticulating extra wildly when I speak, in order that the other person will definitely know how I'm feeling. Like you said, it's all about accuracy. I agree, too, very much with the idea of categorising emotions and judging which is most appropriate for a given situation.

Agree, our emotions primarily go through an emotions filter, in which we analize the optimal (or what we percieve as optimal) output to maintaing the environment as harmonious as possible. Love how Eric breaks the awkward tension by going as extroverted as possible. That's one thing I like to do as well. If I feel that other people are unsure and feeling awkward around me I'll go as goofy as I possibly can to make them laugh and ease the tension in the area. Really only if it's a one on one situation though. Loudly yelling something self deprecating and looking around to make sure as many people as possible could hear me tends to work well and put other people at ease quickly.

Embracing and expressing raw emotion can be terribly uncomfortable for INTPs. I try to embrace it more and more but it still feels like a parasite grabbing my intestines haha. If you try to meet him half way and articulate the emotions as variables or something impersonal, he may able to reciprocate more for you.
@Ephesians5-14
@Ephesians5-14 6 жыл бұрын
thanks for the reply! As variables.. I can't even make my brain do that. Do you have an example? We've been together for almost 21 years, since I was 14, and we (he) still hasn't learned how to communicate 'in the moment' with any degree of productivity. And by that I mean, we don't get anywhere until he has either imploded or exploded and then taken at least 4 hours, sometimes 4 days or 4 weeks to, to understand his feelings and be able to articulate them. Typically his feelings are based on very subjective and incorrect assumptions, so it takes quite a bit of discussion dismantling those outrageous theories before we get anywhere. And it is exhausting. No offense to you or INTP - I came here trying to understand more in hopes of salvaging hope for our future.

@@Ephesians5-14 I am an INFP and it takes me a long time to process my emotions. Like, something happens and at first I'm kind of shocked and numb, then I pass through that and figure out that I am indeed upset, and then it takes me quite some time after that to figure out how to communicate this to the person, if at all, because I am such a huge over thinker. My advice is that when you sense that something is up, just try to accept that he will get around to being able to discuss it in his own time. When people push me to talk about something before I am ready, I just shut down all the more, because my emotions are really intense and I'm afraid I'll make some sort of misstep if I talk about things before I'm ready and have thought out all of the variables.

To those who say that the INTPs look like unexpressive robots: I actually have several "personalities", and among them: - the "indifferent" one (according to my mom lol) when my social battery is low and i just wanna be alone - the very expressive one: when i feel happy / comfortable, i can get very enthusiastic, even childish, and i may act like a 6 y/o X) I can be both of these persons, it really depends on my mood, but sometimes i can laugh very easily. As an INTP i too feel what others are feeling. An example: if im watching a movie with someone, i can tell exactly how they feel about the movie. So, I can watch something with that person and enjoy it, even though i would have never cared to watch it myself. I explained that to an INFP. She looked very confused. I don't like watching movies with people who aren't enjoying it, because i feel that too. However, i can feel if the person is content watching it with me, even though they aren't so much into the movie. If im into it, then i don't mind watching, as the emotions between the two of us are at peace. I come fairly close to F on the scale, but am very much an intp. Maybe that will make sense to INTPs who do not experience the same as i do above

I analyze particularly strong negative emotions for days in a journal as if training them to submission, even though I don't fully express them outwardly. Sometimes I develop algorithms to avoid the circumstances that led to the "tragedy" and attempt to test their robustness. Over the years, the practice has proven invaluable insofar as it allows me to read people much more accurately given that these analyses give me insight into myself. Tangential note: this is the first time I see INTPs in youtube. Your calm and thought patterns feel like such a balm. As a young female INTP who is continually maturing and changing as I adjust all the information I keep constantly taking in,the problem comes when I think I'm too busy to properly process my emotions as if they need a specific scheduled time to be felt. This often leads to the building up of lots of emotions that I have stored for so long that are now starting to spill out of control with absolutely no idea how to handle them. Overall analysis is that we should probably remind ourselves not to alienate our own emotions as much as we do simply because it is counter productive in the longer run if we are to grow in which ever way we choose.

I am an INTP. I THINK my wife is an ENFJ but I am still not completely sure. I can read my wife's emotions easily, mainly because she wears her feelings on her sleeve. She can't read me at all in my normal state. She taught (forced) me to fight with her fairly early in the relationship. I have gotten better at adjusting that filter with her and letting myself express myself (vent) in a controlled way. It is actually refreshing and, surprisingly, she feels closer to me because of it.

Oh my ... you two are an absolute stitch together! I don't even know if I have the words to say how much I enjoyed watching and listening to you talk about emotions. I have a very dear friend who's an INTP and some days it's ... a challenge? to know what he's thinking, much less how he's feeling. Well, I learned not to ask him how he's feeling because I'm likely to get a huh? LOL. Okay, so it's not that bad but I can tell he prefers to talk about his thoughts instead. I look forward to watching more of your videos and I hope you'll do more duo talks.

Like when I don't talk to anybody I have this emotionless face, but when I talk to somebody (a friend) I'm smiling because otherwise the conversation goes boring or they ask whats wrong. Also when I'm sometimes excited I'm acting like a little child. (English its not my first language, for everybody that want to criticizes my grammar!)

There is this contained energy about INTPs that, when they let loose, is like a perfectly calibrated supernova. ;) Emotions, well, you seem to have a lot of them in store and you're expressing them very well (unlike IxTJs, for example). I guess being around your friends helps a lot? Personally, I find emotional expression too physically demanding. If I have to think about how to show what I feel, I end up scraping it all to remain stoic. However, when something genuinely cracks me up, I will be giggling (mostly to myself) until my mind switches back to business. When I think about it, I probably come across as a lunatic when that happens. :p Something I have noticed though: when INTPs make the effort to "read" people, it's a very hit and miss entreprise. As far as I'm concerned, I can appreciate the effort when I see it directed at me, but most often than not, I have to clarify what is going on inside my head because I can't stand being misunderstood

I love the way they feed off eachother. One of them does the INTP deflection (talking where they cause you to smile and laugh and them to smile and laugh without divulging anything/ only saying what the other "wants" to hear) and then the other one does it, and it just continues and continues.

I get the best laughs when Im in my natural INTP state but I'm not practised at it so.. hopefully the day will come when Im comfortable in my own skin

Yes yo the idea of a filter. All external expressions (feelings and facts) can alter the environment, so I'm an effort to achieve a comfortable environment, the expressions must be controlled. Also, even for expressions that remain internal (e.g. suicidal ideation, etc) the emotion is filtered through a reality-checking-machine, to ensure that unfounded or inaccurate emotions are not acted upon. Good video. Apropos of nothing, and speaking for myself, there's no need to be so hyper "on-camera personality"... just be yourself. Cheers

That is interesting. For me I analyze my emotions about experiences as a part of a whole to gain understanding. I analyze my thoughts and If I feel justified because it was logical that I feel a certain thing,then it is based in truth so I have zero problem expressing indignation. If I blow up and later analyze it and come to a conclusion that I was in error . I am quick to admit my own flaws. I then over analyze my mistake and have a need to correct my error. I have difficulty letting any errors slide without explaining my thought process along with my reactions that were triggered, so the other person understands why I made an error in judgement and both parties can learn from a conflict. I am introverted in my thinking but extroverted in my feeling so If their is a strong feeling I often feel justified because I think so much.

but i guesstbh i remember telling few people as an experiment that i am an intp.... and they all where like "NO YOUR NOT" and their reason was like "you are always happy, easy going, talkative, all in.... extroverted....... not depressed............. and naive" i was actually speechless cause i was actually not expecting them to say that.... but i guess its good? cause thats exactly what i want them to think??? though i often ponder about how ppl jus act around jus with what they see cause there could be so much more happening behind the scenes specially with a human... i mean at the end of the day ur just seeing what they want u to see... i mean it does depends if they r good at it or not but... u never know maybe they r naive or maybe they r just excellent actors.... and its kinda make me both more interested and somewhat deserted away from ppl cause their personality is like a puzzle and u know intp nature to solve every freaking puzzles they see..... (one of the reasons i spammed mbti test to almost every of my online friend...cause mbti is like a clue to the human personality xD)

I’m a INTP who is also a rapper and this is a weird place to be. I rap because it’s something that puts me in flow, writing a verse up to my standards is challenging and i love it. Its also the only way i can express my emotions freely. It’s hard to connect wit people or get them to understand how i feel, or that i do feel regardless of my demeanor. I was in the streets a lot when i was younger and my introverted thinking kept me alive i. A lot of situations and those situations took a role on me emotionally and mentally.. i didn’t realize until i got into a serious relationship that i expressed my emotions differently or not at all.. she would complain i was too nonchalant about everything but if a principled i held dear was challenged i was quite explosive.. when i started taking music more serious i found my tolerance of people grew.. i find ppl to be simply annoying, emotional and completely absurd in their decision making. Once i found a way to decompress and translate my emotions thru my lyrics my temperament changed. I still struggle with expression because we don’t live in a musical n i can’t rap everytime i feel, but it has definitely helped me process some tough emotions. Like the loss of people i loved, i never cried. I felt the weight of that pain but it didn’t manifest externally.. i felt bad and broken i couldn’t mourn how normal people do.. i put it in my music.. some songs will never see light of day , they were just me letting off steam.. and I’m a better more efficient person now.. fellow INTPs , FIND A OUTLET. We need outlets for all these bottled up emotions… even if it’s not expressive , just something to help u decompress. It definitely makes keeping composure easier in emotionally distressful situations.

I'm an INTP and I definitely tend to gravitate toward expressive people. I love to see their facial expressions and how they use their whole body to convey their meaning. I'm also rather stoic but throughout the years I've learned how to model the behavior of the people around me. If the person I'm talking to laughs, I laugh too. If they cry, I cry. That's what had worked for me to not come across as too awkward. 🤷

I'm an INFP girl. Thanks so much for this vid! You guys are amazing, so witty and mysterious! Thanks for demystifying INTPs for us... slightly. I need more!! I must understand you!! INTPs are so challenging to read. The INTPs in my life I have only known a short time. When I try to get my young student INTP to talk openly he just wittily jokes and entertains instead - and he is good at it so I can't help but enjoy it even though its not the openness I was hoping for. Its very hard to read what he thinks about me. And I struggle to express to him what I think about him. You two act quite different to each-other. But I know you are both still INTPs, because you understand each other so well. Also, I have two INTP males in my life who have the exact same differences between their behaviours as you two have between yours. Strangely the INTP I know that acts like the one of you also looks like that one, and same with the other. Has anyone else noticed that people who behave similarly also look somewhat similar?

Interesting. May this be a difference between INTP and INFJ? I don't analyze other people's emotions the same way. I treat them as just part of the person and a thing humans do. If they are upset I acknowledge it and try to be calm around stressed people even if I can read their distress. It can be a challenge because it does make me feel a bit of their emotion. I'll crack jokes or say silly questions, just to diffuse the situation. When I am experiencing an emotion I analyze it but let the emotion do its thing (find a quiet place to cry, whatever it takes for the physical aspects to level off, see where it turned and then work up a future plan to handling the situation. Overall I try to be understanding of other people's emotions, forgiving, just keep calm and talk on a rational level, but when it is my own emotions, then my aim is to be rational.

Loveable fool - that just about sums up me and all of us INTP’s. I describe my self as a Joyful INTP. I work in the arts/entertainment so I need to be extrovert and bouncy but when I have to focus on a show ….. engage robot mode…. And then I need downtime recharge….. Emotions !!!! Ugh.. I’m full of the damed things, annoyingly, but I process them as well as I can and sometimes very effectively but for my ex it must have been really painful to not get an instant emotive complete answer to a VERY emotional question or her lack of understanding when I looked at her beaming a radiant smile and say “ I’m happy right now” and turn back happy at the sunset we are watching whilst I’m content holding her hand and just looking Yup INTP and emotions - Lovable Fools
