I'm obviously a junk journaler, so I am going to show you my process on two totally different journals that I am going to create simultaneously within this series here on my KZbin channel. But you can take my ideas and transfer them to any other paper craft project that you might have on your desk!
And no matter if you're a beginner or an expert in what you're doing I hope you can get some helpful tips and tricks from this series.

Wow, Luise, this is a great idea for a series, so excited to follow it! Of course it's only about 3 minutes in and I have to pause and comment. Love your coffee cup, the inner pattern is so nice! But until you touched the cup at 3 minutes 11 seconds all I could see in it was a representation of your journal pages, the tan and oxide base with black and white spatters 😄 Was glad to see they were bubbles popping and you didn't accidentally splatter in your beautiful cup, lol 🤎☕🤎

Louise…this is so so helpful. For those of us watching people like you that have been doing this kind of art for a long time, it can be a bit frustrating sometimes. We see what you do and we want to duplicate, but it’s just not that easy. So doing videos such as this one is tremendously important and helpful. Thank you.

I think the foam in your cup of coffee/tea is beautiful art... from the coloring to the bubbles forming in different sizes with white-ish around them, where the liquid kind-of separates from the foam, and then the design on the inside of the cup. LOL Maybe is should be a new paper design.

I definitely come to my table with way too many ideas, sit down and stare at my blank page or blank table and my mind goes blank - overwhelmed with where to start. Oh I'm so EXCITED for this series!! I have not watched this entire video yet, but I hope that you can demonstrate more about your technique with the fabric-enhanced hard cover book (hidden spine) as the cover on one of these journals. Your Butterfly Beach journal and its cover are my favorite journals I've ever seen on KZbin, and I've seen quite a few from many different junk journal artists. In my opinion, your "eye" for colors and composition is outstanding and unique. I have already learned so much from you!!

This helped me so much. My ADHD often keeps me from being able to get through the first step when starting new projects, as well as seeing all my color options at once, then I get on “choice-overload” and get so overstimulated and just quit. Thank you for giving me a process to use on those days when I’m stuck. 💜 Oh, and I love how you added the ‘feeling’ part of selecting colors, I didn’t realize this is how I choose color, but I so do and now I feel I can clearly use that emotional-tool to help me choose.

On the issue of starting a project, I do struggle. Sometimes I have to walk away or set aside the plan for a different idea because I’m just not feeling it or I’m so anxiety ridden I’m feeling it too much. When I need inspiration from within myself, I will often just play. The “swatch series” Luise was truly inspirational. Your “mood board” series is a great one too…okay, everything you do is fabulous & informative. But if you do struggle with “getting started”, the mood board playlist is a go-to.

I just used a small journal to do this. My previous journals were a hodgepodge of colors/styles, and I wanted to try making one more coordinated. I put color swatches of Distress Oxides, wrote down some main focus-nature/floral /birds/butterfly and some coordinating elements like text paper and a background stamp to use throughout. Now on to your idea of going through papers, ephemera that would work so I don’t have to hunt through my stash for every page-thanks for helping me think this through !

It feels like you did this just for me! I don't have much time to play it seems, so when I get time, it's usually spent forgetting every idea I DID have. I've got more supplies than I'll ever use, so I'm trying to be selective in what I buy... (I think I am preparing to be stuck retiring with only enough to pay bills and eat, so I feel that I need to have enough supplies on hand to carry me through those years...) I'd really like to start playing before retirement, lol!!! Thank you for being so inspirational and great at teaching!

Louise, thank you so much for this series! I'm really looking forward to following along with you for the whole process, beginning to end. As a complete beginner to art, I really appreciate when you take the time to explain your process in detail. I often sit down at my craft table, jonesing to make something, and then my mind goes blank. Perhaps I'm feeling overwhelmed because I have no experience with imagining an end product or with developing and designing a project plan for arty things, yet am surrounded by supplies... I enjoy swatching and experimenting too, so on those evenings, that's what I do. 😉

I'm very interested in this series. I think it's clever of you to show more than one style journal because it's easy to think that grungy is all there is. I'm curious as to whether or not you use the papers you put in your idea notepad later when you are working on the journal?
